when swapping a lt1/4l60e into a third gen that had a 305tbi and a 700r4 the shifter **** is a different type and location on the 4l60e then the 700r4. the 700 is a round threaded stub w/ a flat place on each side if i remember right. now the 4l60e has a stud on the drivers side. what do you do about this to make it work in a third gen? obiously they apear different where the third gen shifter cable wont fit on the 4th gen tranny. help please

Use a 4th gen shifter cable, it connects to the shifter the same way that the 3rd gen does.

I was able to use my factory '91 Firebird cable and shifter with my 4l60-E. It bolted right on with no fitment problems what so ever. Here's a pic of my factory 3rd gen cable on my 4l60-e. Yours should be the same.

Runs pretty good. I have a few issues to sort out still, but nothing major.

The headers I used are 4th gen Edelbrocks. I used them because they came with my donor car. They fit pretty well with no real clearance issues. I'll make a post about them in a few days if I get a chance. They do require an O2 relocation on the passengers side, and must have a custom Y-pipe made for them. I ran true dual, so the y-pipe wasnt an issue for me.
