Hello everyone....
I have finally decided which engine im going to go with in my camaro. The only problem is that i havent been able to find anyone with the setup that i have been wanting to go with. I want to do an LT1/T56 Swap with forged 383 stroker and lt4 top end.....if anyone has done this combination could you share some advice...or if anyone has even seen this combo throw some advice....i dont want a ridiculous car...mainly a nice weekend car that will do decent et times and make nice power.....anyways i apprecate of everyones input...

The 383 build is basically the same as a regular 350->383 build on the bottom end, there are some kits that Summit sells for this. I wouldn't waste the time on the LT4 setup since the intake is only setup for the LT4 heads and limits the heads you can use (if anyone even makes a set of aftermarket LT4 heads). You would be better off keeping the LT1 intake and heads, which will give you a broader range of heads to select from.
Hey thanks a lot for the input klortho...So what you are saying is that the lt4 conversion kit is basically a waste of money? I reading some posts on a couple other forums of ppl who also agreed with you...would you suggest keeping my lt1 heads and just porting them and get a nice cam and valvetrain to match? I was thinking a nice port/valve job on heads, port matched intake manifold and a nice cam i could probably get some nice power along with the 383.....do you have any suggestions for cams? thanks a lot
Hey thanks a lot firebat.....im definately going to contact him and see what he says....i guess keeping the stock lt1 heads and intake would be the better decision after all....my last question would be would i need to get a forged 383 stroker it if im not running any sort of F/I? Ive seen some pretty good prices on stroker kits with hypretutic (spelling) pistons but do they create the same power levels of forged kits??
thanks again

the hypereutectic kits make great power but I would onl recommend an N/A setup for that no power adder (aka nitrous, supercharger, turbo) since the pistons are prone to cracking under high heat. They work perfect for a strong running all motor setup though. if you wanna build more and more power later on then I would go for the forged kit

I know of someone who was putting a 175 shot on a stock bottom ended LT1 with a set of MTI heads and a CC306 running low 6's in the 1/8th with a 6-speed, the newer hyper pistons can take the abuse more than they used to. It's not uncommon to see 400+hp on the stock bottom ends on these motors. I just talked to Comp Cams at Bristol this weekend and I'm still conviced that the CC306 is probably the best cam for these engines when the heads are ported etc etc. They said on a more stock combo the 467 was a better choice which is probably what I will end up going with.

Yea Izcain im planning on just keeping my car all motor bc it will be driven kind of a lot....(mostly weekends but the occasional trip)..i just wanted to make sure that hypereutectic pistons would be okay to handle power from the ported heads, cam, valvetrain and stroke....i appreciate the advice.
Klortho thats insane that someone put a 175 shot to stock lt1 pistons....will in that case i definately believe that they would be strong enough to handle the setup that i want....do you have a stock bottom end on your car?
and were you saying that for this particular setup, the cc306 cam would be the best cam? i actually had plans of calling comp to see what cam they would recommend but you beat me to it....
thanks a lot guys

The 306 is a mean cam, and the questions the guy asked was are my heads ported or stock and when I told him stock, he said that I would never get the full advantage of the 306, it hits a mean lick and sounds good, makes power to about 6500 RPM.
My bottom end is stock, I'm going to swap out the cam this summer I hope, I already have bigger valve springs in which is good to about .600 lift so I should be set with it.
Here is a page on the comp site which has their cams for the LT1's
The one they recommended to me was the 467

Bone stock except for the valve springs which I was going to put a 306 in the car so I put them in, but couldn't get the cam and the headers. It's pretty fast enough right now, I couldn't imagine how fast if I started modding it. I haven't taken it to the track yet, but I would say with a set of sticky tires, low 8's in the 1/8th high 12's low 13's in the 1/4.
Wow thats really impressive that all you have is valve springs and you are having ets like that....With my setup i hope to be around low to mid 12's. I know its going to take some work, but i think its pretty doable. Im calling both lloyd elliot and comp cams today to see what the say on cam choice..ill let ya know what they say...
thanks again
