lt1 alternator help
I have swaped a 1995 lt1 into a 1987 firebird, and everything is pretty much done, it starts and runs off the battery. But I am afraid to plug in the alternator (so it starts charging), I think that it might fry. I have read all the posts about the 470 ohm 1 watt resistor and am still confused. Some people say use the resistor and some say you do not need it. I conected the red wire from the lt1 alternator to the original brown wire on the 87 birds fuse box that is the charging system light (hot when ignition is in run). Do I need to use the resistor or not.
Thanks

When I did my swap I couldn't get the alternator to charge using the resistor. What I researched and have found is that take the 12V and put it on the "F" terminal on the plug instead of the "L" terminal. I have done this and it charges great and has been working fine now for about 2 months.

I put the resistor inline the red wire coming out of the blue C220 connector. Just drove the car to Atlanta and back, no problems at all.
