I have the LT-4 Cam in my L-98 with the stock timing chain. It is new though, and only had a few easy miles on it but i dont see why it wouldnt be fine.Sorry i misread your post i thought you were putting in the LT-1 cam.Im not sure about that cams specifics but my guess is you might want to use the heavy duty onr

Use the heavy duty one, and remember, it's LT1/4 specific. You will probably be ok with the standard, but do you really want to risk it?

I don't see why you need to run the HD LT4 timing set. I am running the same cam and I beat the crap out of my motor. All I did was replace the timing chain itself with an Advance Auto replacement and put the motor back together. I wasn't about to drop the cash for the upgraded setup when there was nothing wrong with the existing one.

Ok i have another ? 1981LT1 the guy told him at comp cams to check for valve clerance. He is not having the heads shaved so we dont think this will be a problem did you have any problems with valve clearance?

I saw a heavy duty roller timing chain set with double chains by eddelbrock for under $100.00.iIt was at the jim pace G.M. performance parts.

Clearance problems, no. I had to machine the heads for bigger springs and I upgraded to the Comp Magnum roller tip rockers (1.6 ratio). While the heads were at the machine shop, they decked the heads a few thousandths and put a 5-angle valve job on them. Everything works flawlessly and there is no clearance issues.

If your using B-body iron LT1 heads, you may have valve guide/spring retainer clearance issues, which requires the guides be machined down a bit. I don't believe it's a problem with the aluminums, but double check to be sure.
