suspension issues
my 92 firebird has worn out shocks and springs. i want to replace them for i bottom out easily. but i plan to drop a 93-05 LT1,LT4 or Ls1 engine (92 corvette) in. with this heavier and stronger engine will i need to get more heavy duty shocks and springs? i dont want to get new stuff and then have to change it b/c of the bigger engine.

Eather motor you put in there is going to be lighter than the one you have in there now. If you have a V-8 in it the LT1-50lbs LS1-100lbs I belive. My 0.2 befor it gets moved.

I think I have read on here where the LT1 will come back down to regular ride height. But the LS1 will will not check out the LS1 sticky it gives more detail. As for the V-6 still will use the same shocks but with eather LS1-LT1 you will have to get some V-8 front springs here is a link to some LT1 swap info www.geocities.com/texaslt1/lt1swap/swap.html try the hardware list!

I just put an eibach pro kit in mine with KYB AGX adjustable shocks and a suspension techniques sway bar kit. With the LS1 I really like the way it sits, BUT, I think the spohn tubular control arms that I'm using have a slightly deeper spring box (not 100% sure) so that may give it a slight bit more drop. Before, I had hotchkis springs with 1/2 coil cut off the front (big no-no) and it sat way too low. It handles like a new car with this new set up, I will try to get a couple pics up here soon for you.

Basically what I'm saying is that with Spohn tubular front control arms and the Eibach Pro-Kit my car sits just how I want it to. My old suspension setup was too low. Ill take pics when I'm working on it today.

I think that it was missed that he has a 3.1...
If you keep the stock suspension, the LT1 will be heavier, and I think that the LS1 will be as well. I'd reccomend going with some kind of aftermarket (V8) spring and strut/shock set-up. I have Eibach Pro-Kit, and for me, they aren't low enough. I would like mine to be about 1/2" lower. That's why I am going to get Ground Control springs so I can adjust the ride height of the car once I get the LS1 in.
If you just get stock V8 replacement springs, new struts/shocks won't really be required, but the car 14-15 years old, so replacing them (even with stock replacements) is a good idea, IMO. If you go with lowering springs, some kind of sport shock. I like KONIs, but they are pretty pricey. The cheapest I've found is $105 per rear and $226.80 per front. That's $663.60 for all four. Tokicos are good as well, as are KYBs.
Hope this helps.
