ls6 complete swap questions....
ok so ive read and searched but still nothing. i have a 91 350TPI Z28 that i will be doing a complete ls1 style swap. i have the plastic gas tank with fuel pump assembly still all in tact and the t56 and lsx motor. i will not be using my stock guages as i have made a custom autometer electronic guage cluster. my question is thatg ive read about needing to reprogram the lsx ecm or get signal conversion devices so that this motor swap will work correctly with factory guages, but what i wanna know is if i have all new aftermarket guages will i need any devices to make them work correctly?
also since i am using the stock fuel tank from an ls1 with the fuel pump, will i need anything coversion wise like hook it up electronically or will the stock wiring harness have the all the correct plugs?

Depends alot on what gauges you got. This list will assume that you got the programmable speedo.
Speedo: Hook it right to the VSS output of the PCM. Program it per the instructions, and it works perfectly.
Tach: Make sure you have it set to 4CYL...then hook it right to the tach output of the PCM
Batt: Simple enough. Just hook it to switched 12v.
Oil: I used the gauge sender in the stock location with a couple adapters
Temp: Used the gauge sender in the rear of the passenger side head. YOu need an adapter back there too. Plenty of info around for which adapter you need.
Fuel... This is a tougher one. If you got the gauge from autometer, for the correct ohm range that matches a 4th gen, you will STILL need to send it back to them to have the movement reversed...in order for it to move in the right direction. Me and a few others have done this. However...it still will suck. When the gauge says 1/2...I better fill up because I literally have only about a gallon left. Solution...spend the dough and get the programmable autometer fuel gauge. Its about $100...but should work great.
That help with the gauges some?
Now...for the fuel tank. I took out the stock 3rd gen fuel connector...back behind the seats. Englarged the hole a bit, then mounted the 4th gen connector. So right there, the tank will plug right in like factory 4th gens did. Then, you just run the new wires up the rocker, and to the PCM. BUT...becareful. make sure you know which wires are what, because there are a few duplicat colors in that harness. Worked great for me, and if I ever have to work on the tank, I can just unplug it and drop it. Any more questions just ask.

Dingle...thats exactly it. The autometer gauge is CLOSE...but not exact. Im alittle ticked at how autometer doesnt sell a gauge set up to work with the LS1 sender. These cars are very popular in the aftermarket industry...so it would make sense to have an option set up so that the gauge works.
Im going to drop the coin on a new programmable gauge here soon. And Im going to sell my "reworked" gauge at the same price as autometer sells them new. So someone can get the gauge already modified for the same price as the non-modified gauge. I just hate not having a good idea of what fuel is left... kinda scary sometimes how much gas it takes at the pump... last week i was able to put 15.1 gallons in it!!!! And I was actually going to wait a bit to fill up! Thats like a gallon left! Stupid gauge.

Got a link for the programmable one? I looked on autometers site and didn't see one. Probably was looking in the wrong spot.
Oh and :werd: to not know how much gas being left, the gas in the LS1 tank cools the fuel pump, if you run it too dry say bye bye to your pump.

Hey guys...here is the link to the gauge in the Phantom series gauges. Im not positive that its available in other series.
http://autometer.com/cat_gaugedetail...gid=3469&sid=7
Its hard to find because its in the full sweep electric section...and all the other fuel gauges are short sweep electric.
Looks like its available in most of the series... Bout $110... Go on egauges.com...
