LS1 Engine Build
Ok, I'm a total nooblet when it comes to putting together enginesm I haven't the foggiest how to do it. By build, I mean from ordering the parts and putting it together myself in the garage. What parts do I need? What resources should I look at?
The brand/model of good parts I'm sure I can find around in various threads but I can't find a central location of what all is needed to build an engine. I'm not sure if there are a lot of differences but I'd like to build an engine on the LS1/LS6 block.
I know it'll take more time but the thing I lack most is knowledge. What all do I need as a first-time engine builder? (From parts to tools to where things go :P)
This may also apply to a simple engine build question as well...I couldn't find this question answered in particular elsewhere. Thanks!

I would say read...alot. Go to LS1 Tech, here, other sites and read up on everything.
And if it is your first build...don't do it by yourself. Find someone who knows what they are doing and see if they will let you watch them work on engines. And even then, when you start to build, I wouldn't do it solo. I would work with a professional

working with a pro would be pretty sweet, but sometimes that is not an option. I also do advise you to check out ls1tech, there is tons and tons of info about the lsx engines, just about everything you'd need to know.
I think that to learn how to do something, start out by taking it apart. This is the way I've always learned stemming from childhood taking apart my bike and putting it back togethor. I find this way easier by taking peice by peice, figuring it out and whatnot, then putting back togethor. Regarding tools, ha you are on your own there, you will buy a ton and still end up needing something else, good luck there, definately start out with a torque wrench.
There's also a book titled ls1/ls6 building. It's a good read, but most of the info is pretty old, because we have ls2 and 7 and x/s by now. Still worth the reading and information. It will give you a better idea about the ls series engines.

Awesome advice guys!
I found out that I'm in luck and there is someone in my community that knows how to build engines...hopefully I can tap into him. I'll be checking out ls1tech a lot too! Thanks!

Ask him to show you how to use an torque-angle guage. If he doesn't know what one is, run away.
LS1s use torque-to-yield bolts and don't go together like older engines, they're not forgiving of assembly errors. Your typical shadetree will mung it up big time.

Read as much as you can. When you go to put it together make sure you have teh hays manual and an LSx street or performance engine building book.
