Some 5.3 truck motor questions

Does the 5.3 truck motor's 4L60E have provisions for a torque arm mount?

Does anyone know of any clearance issues with the truck accessory setup?

What about the oil pan?

Thanks

Re: Some 5.3 truck motor questions

I doubt that the tranny will have the torque arm mount since trucks dont use it. Using an F-body tranny if the best way to go I guess.

You can use the truck accessories if you use the 5.3 truck intake, you'll have to notch your crossmember to allow the AC compressor to fit.

Oil pan will fit too, but it will be very low, about 1 1/2" under the crossmember. I suggest swapping to an F-body pan.

Tranny wise, I can just swap to a cross member mounted torque arm.

Sounds like the best route to go would be an fbody oil pan, then later swap to LS1 intake and accessory setup. I don't use AC, so that gets dumped.

Are these things throttle by wire? if so, can you just swap to say an FBody throttle body?

Re: Some 5.3 truck motor questions

5.3 and LS1 98-02 (from f-bodies) arent drive by wire. LS1, LS6 Vettes 97+ and LS1, LS2 GTO all are.

If you change for an LS1 intake later on, your 5.3l idler (from your accessory setup) will interfere with the lower positioned throttle body. If you wanna go that route, youll have to swap to F-body or vette accessories.

some 5.3/4.8's did come with drive by wire. you can change to a standard set up search on ls1tech i've seen tons of threads about it.

You only need to change the tailhousing on the truck trans to one from a camaro to get the torque arm mount. Other than that they are the same trans.

On the accessories. How many of the ones from a truck 5.3 can be used with the ls1 mounting brackets?

Also are the trucks computer and wires compatable with the ls1 intake and accessories?

Re: Some 5.3 truck motor questions

Truck accessories DO NOT FIR under any stock third gen hood. In fact they dont fit under a gargantuan scooped hood either. They just dont fit worth a damn.

The wiring harness can be used but you will not find the same amount of support for pin outs and others with experience as it is the path less travelled but it does indeed work. Consider a tune mandatory though to get everything to jive

I would also recommend the cross member mounted torque arm it works great and is smooth as stock so long as you get the bushing type not the rod end type

May as well go with the ls1 as the cost will be about the same after purchasing the 5.3 and all the conversion parts, yes?

Re: Some 5.3 truck motor questions

Depends on the cost of the 5.3, mileage etc. If you keep your eyes open on LS1tech you kind find wrecked cars come up pretty often and get parted out. Some guys are reasonable some guys are out to lunch. I wouldn't hesitate to put a 5.3 in if I got it for a bargain and had time to source the nec parts out cheap enough. they are a great lil motor but if its street price then I'd look for a 6.0L. More cubes is more free power
