Sponsors who do LS1 swaps
Could anyone point me in the way of sponsors or anyone who preforms LS1 swaps on third gens? (If there are any at all for that matter). Do they do packages such as stock swap, to mild builds, to full blown rebuilds?
Thanks in advance!

It's going to be reaaally expensive if you don't do the work yourself. You don't have to rebuild the engine, but labor will kill you if you have them put it in and make it work.

I know Hawks will do a swap for you. Don't expect it to be cheap or fast. However, I've heard you can count on it being very well done and having it look like it came from the factory that way. From what I hear they do a top notch job.

Neat, I'll be writing Hawks to see what they can do for me.
I'd spear head the swap myself, but I haven't a garage to do it in (damned condos), so I'm SOL there.

Re: Sponsors who do LS1 swaps
haha who needs a garage??

But in all seriousness...I wish I had a garage big enough to do my swap in... Hawks was quoting me prices for a swap package...Meaning all the stuff including engine and trans that Ide need. And it was reasonable. And Ive seen some of the work they put out of their shop. It is indeed top notch and you will be very happy with it. Just expect the mod bug to bite ya after alittle bit.

Re: Sponsors who do LS1 swaps
^ I did that back in Florida, just with a PODS unit. Buuut, the condo association up here frowns upon vehicle maintenance (like oil changes) in their parking lot, let alone a full blown swap.
I've asked various people on Craigslist who have garages to rent, but all the ones with electricity and running water aren't thrilled that I want to do WORK in the garage, vs just wash my car there and park it.

That sucks man... thats why Im dreading living in an apt or similar... not being allowed to even tinker with the car outside the place. I told the woman..."no garage...no justin" haha. just kidding.
Maybe there is someone on the boards semi local that will "rent" you some space to mess with it??

may want to check your regional boards to see if anyone closer has an idea. There's a couple good shops that do this but nothing close to you that I know of.

I couldn't care if they're close, feel free to shoot out the names of the further away shops. I don't have a problem shipping out the car because I have a retired friend who transports cars with his International in his spare time.
Re: Sponsors who do LS1 swaps
There is a guy in Houston that does good work...look in the Texas regional section. I called and asked your question..if I bring eng/transmission how much to make the swap and runnnig well. About 2500...guess who is doing the swap...Me.

Re: Sponsors who do LS1 swaps
So... for 2500 he will swap it in so long as you provide the motorset and transmission?! Wow, that is incredible. Are there examples of his work on the board anywhere?

That actually sounds like a really good deal if what he does is good looking work. There is an incredible amount of labor involved (for paying for labor), and I'd guess he'd get it done faster than most DIYers.

Re: Sponsors who do LS1 swaps
Last summer Hawks quoted me $3,000 to do that swap with me providing the LT1, wire harness, and ECM.
I just did it myself... we started it. Ran out of time over leave, and now I'm in Baghdad..lol

Re: Sponsors who do LS1 swaps
Hawks did a swap on my car over three years ago. I am still very happy with it. It looks like it came from the factory that way. It has been inspected by the publishers and editors from Super Chevy ,GM Hi-Tech and Engine Masters magazines and they were very impressed with the job. They saw it last year during the engine masters contest held where I work at World products / Bill Mitchell Hardcore racing.

Re: Sponsors who do LS1 swaps
I did my swap (305/700r4) by myself with a lot of help from my brother. The total damage on my wallet (not including the price of the camaro) was about 15 large. Plus the countless man hours put into it...but the one thing about doing it yourself is that you know every part that's in there, how it goes in, and how it works within your vehicle. Priceless knowledge to have if something (god forbid) goes wrong with your car or engine instead of having to rely on a shop to fix it when they have time and when you can afford it. I know a couple of shops up here in canada that would do the swap for a reasonable price but I doubt you want to come up here to do it. Letting a shop do the swap would be easier and less stress for you obviously but most likely a lot more expensive.
Good luck in getting it done...trust me, it's worth it.
Jeff

Re: Sponsors who do LS1 swaps
..sorry. The total project is about 15 000 cdn now because of new cnc ls6 heads, intake, cam, rods, redone interior and other small thngs that seem to add up including a new paint job. Hope that clarifies things. Thread
