Re: ls6 $1800

It is a very good price. A couple points:

*I hope other oil pans bolt up, and they should, but you probly can't use the Corvette one
*LS6's are drive by wire - you'll either have to deal with installing a pedal with throttle sensor or change the throttle body to cable-type. Custom programming required to change over too.
*You need to check miles and probably be a good idea to check compression on the motor. For that price you can afford to rebuild it and assuming nothing is busted, still come out cheaper than most setups going for.
*Did LS6's COME with an auto? LS6 came in the Z06 which didn't have an auto; it did come in some Caddy's, but I think those were all CTS-V's and weren't those 6-speed only?

If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is...

LS6 is a corvette motor.

the corvette oilpan, and accessories will have to be swapped for Fbody ones.
the corvette uses a transaxle.. so that wont work for you either.

so, on that note, its either not worth that price because it needs too much stuff swapped around to work, OR, its not a LS6 but a 2001-02 LS1 with an LS6 intake and possibly a LS6 block... or its straightup not an LS6 anything

LS6 was used in the Caddy CTS-V's as well. It uses a transaxle huh? You mean it has a rear mounted transmission? It's still an LS motor and you can use any LS1-style T-56.

yup, all the C5s and newer Ybodies use a torque tube and transaxle.... its still a T56 or a 4l60e trans... (or the newer 6spdautos)...but in transaxle form

Re: ls6 $1800

V's used a "standard" T56 tho, not the transaxle type.

Exactly. I was offered the same deal (Just $2000 instead) and came to find out the engine was apart of a insurance scam. Needless to say I walked away from that deal as fast as I could.

Re: ls6 $1800

the ls6 is just the block, heads, cam, and intake everythig is inerchangable. some ls6 blocks are in camaros and firebirds as well but with ls1 heads and cam, but ls6 intake thay are 01-02. and everything will swap an f-body oil pan will be needed as well as pick up and windage tray but the accersories from anything will work.

Re: ls6 $1800

Yes accesories will be fine. I think they are actually better from the vette since the alternator is up top and not on the bottom of the engine. However the A/C compressor sits a little farther back and is a little more difficult to use.

Re: ls6 $1800

lsx anything for around 2500 is a good buy if it's all there and in running shape. they are getting cheaper everyday though. around here the motor itself is going for 1-1200 and then the computer, harness and trans separately of course.

when i did mine i paid $3600 for motor, trans, harness, ecm with 35k miles. then i paid another 2k for the accessories i needed to bolt it all up. this was not including the custom 1200 front k member, a arms and mounts either.

now that i've done a few of them though i can cut costs considerably... first time around is always the worst.

Re: ls6 $1800

If it's really an LS6 block then yeah awesome deal. If it's someone trying to pan off an LS1 as an LS6 block then it's still a pretty good deal.
