'06 GTO (complete car) good for swap?

I am new to this board. I have owned few F-bodies in the past, the last being a 2001 Z28 M6 hardtop stripper that I bought new. I have been out of the scene for awhile, but am looking for a new project... .An older gentleman at my work wrecked his 6 month old GTO w/ 7k miles. The car is being totalled and he will sell me the entire car for what the insurance co wants--$6900. It is an auto and the drivetrain is in perfect condition. I am thinking that I could perhaps recoup about ~$2k in misc. parts (seats, brakes, other interior and such) to get the cost of the engine/trans parts down to about 5 grand. Would this be a good candidate for a donor? Since I have the whole car, would I be able to us the electronic throttle?

Thats a great deal IMO being such a new car with so low miles. You'll pull more than $2k out of parts I bet. The LS2 is easy to mod for big power

As to your question about the Electronic TB, from what I have read, you can get a cable-driven TB from Scoggin-Dickey or seeing as you already have the donor car, just swap the pedal assembly into whatever your application.

we used the drivetrain from an 05 gto for our swap and kept the electronic throttle but used a petel from a vett with the gto wireing harness you will not be able to have crusie control and the oil pan, oil pick up, dipstick, and windage tray has to be changed to an f-body's i can remake the bracket for the petel i made if you need me to

Do it! I have an 06 LS2 GTO. They come with a 24x reluctor wheel so all you need is a LS1 A4 computer a few LS1 sensors to replace the LS2 stuff and a cable accuated TB, the above mentioned items, and the rest is gravy. Sell the parts at www.ls2gto.com and recoupe your money. Sell Everything... even the stuff you think wouldn't sell... Will! Those guys will buy everything you have. They really munch up parts on that site for some reason. Enjoy your newfound powerplant!

The engine alone would almost cost your $6900, so go for it! As for the reluctor wheel, GM actually used two different versions, so you need to check which one you have (you can tell by the color of the electrical conector, but I don't remember which is which). The type of reluctor wheel is important when you build the harness.

If you go with a cable throttle body then you can use an '04 GTO or LS1 F-body ECU.

All GTO's came with the 24x reluctor wheel. The above comment is true for 2005 & 2006 Corvette's though!

Why would the '05/06 Corvette be different than the '05/06 GTO LS2's? I'm pretty sure it's the same issue.

Not sure to be honest with you, but I just bought an LS2 out of an 06 GTO w/ 6000 miles on it with a 24x. After tons of looking around for one out of a corvette with the 24x reluctor wheel or a 58x that I could put the 24x crank into I found out that all the LS2's in the GTO's were 24x. It may have to do with the factory in AU where they produced the GTO side by side with the Monaro. They too are all 24x it seems. Maybe they didn't switch computer systems till 07' for the 58x in AU. Who knows!
