Re: hawks headers installation question
undo motor mount and jack up engine for clearance. most header installs require this. watch for dist. not hitting firewall and above all ,be careful. donot put fingers between engine and mounts and other places to get pinched.do one side at a time. your directions should have told you this.

yea, if mine didn't have ac, i think it would drop right in. i have the coil packs off and starter off. its close but it just wont go. i do think if i raise the motor up some, it will drop right in. i guess i'll try that.

Re: hawks headers installation question
i finally got the passenger header in. i hope i never have to pull it out. now if i could only get the crossmember holes to line up, i would be happier.
Re: hawks headers installation question
I had to pull the AC Stuff out to get mine in. Basically, everything has to be removed from the passangers side to do it. I agree, it was a pain to get in. The drivers side fits right in without removing anything. Has anyone made a new crossmember like the Drews one yet? Im still looking for one so I can run my Y-pipe straight back with out the ground clearance problems.

I made mine with a double hump. I don't have long tubes but the pipes run in the same locations and I am using 3" pipes with out ever bottoming it out.
it's real easy to do. I used 1/4" steel that was already bent in a U-shape and 3/8"? maybe larger for the flat metal. others did the same but used steel pipe that was around 3 1/2" ID with a 1/4" or so wall. then cut it down the center to get the U shape.

Re: hawks headers installation question
Passenger side header wouldnt come out of mine... I had to weld my flanges on while it was still on the car. Wasnt a problem during my build, because I remove/install the engine from the bottom. So my headers were bolted up before the motor went in. Pass. header wont come out without removing my a/c box. No way whatsoever
Custom built crossmember??? Sure...

Allows for use of this...

Made mine from 1x3 tubing, with some 2x2 angle for the side mounts. Got the torque arm mount from spohn so I could still use his torque arm.

Re: hawks headers installation question
i just cut a very small notch in the headers. not in the headers, but the piece that the tubes connect to, that the gasket goes on.
Re: hawks headers installation question
get the car up as high as you can on jackstands and then jack engine up on passenger side with pass side engine mount undone or unbolted put header in from bottom side no prob and i do have ac
