will this work ???
will this work ???
im new to all this so please be patint with me. i have a 92 rs with a tbi 305 that needs a new motor. i also have a 94 lt1 that has been converted to carb with a gmpp intake. my question is once i have the motor in the car can i use a carb to tbi adapter and get away with using the factory 305 componants? will the lt1 run too lean doing this, if so what can be done to offset this. the reason i sak all of this is im on a tight budget, and if this will not work then im sol. any help would just be awsome. sorry for the spelling guys my spell check took a crap.
sorry i i have angered anyone by posting this 3 times i just wasnt sure where it belonged.

You *could* get it to work, but you'd probably need at least a set of TBI 350 injectors, a good fuel pump, and a good bit of prom burning to get it to run right, the stock fuel / ignition maps arent going to come close to working for the LT1, if you are on a really tight budget and have a carb to put on it for the time being my suggestion would be to put the carb on and leave the wiring in place for the TBI so that you can put that on once you have the money / time to do a proper burned prom.
Re: will this work ???
i was waiting on an awnser before i asked this next question. is the trans comp. controled in any way on this car?? i would go look but the car isnt where i can get to it at this time. my only concern with a carb is how reliabe , and fuel efficiant it would be on the highway......roughly a 110 mile drive. if the trans isnt a prob, then i will just ditch the comp and go carb. i know i can get everything to bolt up to the lt1; i just didnt know about the fuel issuse. so using 350 or 427 injectors, a tpi fuel pump, an adj fuel presure reg, and some type of readly off the shelf chip wont be enough to make this monster work.

I dont know of any off the shelf prom that would work, you may be able to talk to some of the TBI guys and might find someone willing to burn you something that would get it drivable, maybe even some of the LT1 tuning sources.
If you are talking about the auto in your RS as it is, only the lockup for the torque converter is ecu controlled, easily remedied by installing a vacuum switch kit for the TCC.
I dont know of any 427 tbi injectors, but i believe the truck 350 tbi injectors should work for a mild LT1.

Re: will this work ???
There's 6.0/7.0 tbi units from Uhaul and Ryder medium duty trucks floating out there in the 90's trim. It's a commercial variant of the 454 truck TBI setup.
I would think 454 truck stuff would be closer to supporting an LT1, judging by outputs required. It would still need tuning, though, there's just no getting around it.

Re: will this work ???
not sure if this would help or not..........the motor is bone stock except for the intake being changed to a carb style..............also the motor came out of a buick roadmaster............just thought i would throw this out there. what would need to be done to upgrade to just a mild or stock 350? any one out there think that they might want to swap a fresh 350 for my lt1.......i have the factory intake, exhaust manifolds, tb, and a comp out of a caprice cop car, sorry no wiring though. im only asking to see what type of offers or options i have. i live about 2 hours east of dallas tx.

Why not install it with the EFI if you have the majority of it ? The fuel savings alone will be worth it, not to mention drivability etc.
