Anyone Here Daily Drive Their LS1 3rd gen?
Just wondering who here daily drives their LS1 swapped car? Is this swap and everything that goes with it, make for a reliable car?
What do you guys do for insurance coverage? Surely ya'll don't put all that time and money into your cars and only have liability? You guys give documentation to the ins. company, so in the event of wreck or theft you'll be compensated properly?
THANKS!

Surprised nobody has responded yet.
I'm not there yet, but my plan is to drive mine during the summer. It's a California car that hasn't been exposed to salt, so I intend to keep it that way. The Berlinetta #1 can handle year-round duties just fine.
I haven't looked into insurance yet, but I might try the collector insurance that I have on the '57. They don't limit mileage, but do expect it to be garaged.

I drive mine all the time in the summer....it's dead reliable. Starts every time, idles smooth, doesn't over heat, doesn't leak, doesn't smell.....gets 30mpg on the highway....best money I ever spent on the car.

Same here. Car drives great. I don't get 30 mpg though, can't keep my foot off it.

Mine isn't an LS1, but I drive my LT1 56 miles round trip to work and home every day for the past 3 years averaging about 26mpg.

Re: Anyone Here Daily Drive Their LS1 3rd gen?
too snowy.. I did drive mine a bit and it's just fine which is why I did the swap from the built lopey 350 I had. I don't get the famous 30 mpg but I calculated 24.5 mpg hwy @ 72 mph you may want to note mine does not have the egr installed or the purge valve hooked up yet so I could see a few extra mpg easy. making 27+ mpg

Re: Anyone Here Daily Drive Their LS1 3rd gen?
the point of my ls1 swap is to make my old carbed car reliable and affordable enough to keep using it as a daily driver (yes it was my daily driver before too =D )

Daily driver here...except for when it snows or if there is a ton of salt on the roads. Regular insurance, full covereage. Had to use it recently when I wrecked it too
The next time around, with the 86, Im getting it appraised. Just in case...

Re: Anyone Here Daily Drive Their LS1 3rd gen?
I drove mine daily from Feb to Oct '07, then I moved to Germany. I'm not driving it in the winters here because of the road conditions. Getting appraised insurance here has been a chanllenge too, it hasn't happened yet.
The insurance is my biggest concern, I'm still looking into it here but I'll definitely do it in the states. Aside from this, the car has been great to drive!

i drive mine about 30 miles a day back and forth to work. Would like to retire it to weekend duty but I really enjoy the car. Still get pretty awesome gas mileage to!

Re: Anyone Here Daily Drive Their LS1 3rd gen?
Mines a daily driver, 50 miles daily round trip for work. I am in the Army and they just sent me to recruiter school, that was 1200 miles from Texas to South Carolina, averaging 29 miles per gallon. I have my pinion angle set at -2 degrees, I am thinking before I head back setting it at 0 degrees to see if I can pick up a mpg or so.

Re: Anyone Here Daily Drive Their LS1 3rd gen?
Does yours made a third LS1 3rd gen here in Austin? 1 I know isn't a DD & the other...Well, lets just say the car was running, but not a very clean install, so the new owner is having headaches fixing everything.

Re: Anyone Here Daily Drive Their LS1 3rd gen?
I just got it running 2 weeks ago, and its a little loud and breezy still... but i've driven mine every day to work for that time. The car is my daily driver, so if the swap wasnt reliable i'd be screwed

Re: Anyone Here Daily Drive Their LS1 3rd gen?
How's the gas mileage? Right now I'm driving 40mi round trip back and forth to work.....
Re: Anyone Here Daily Drive Their LS1 3rd gen?
I drive mine 80 miles round trip to work and back. At least, I was until the other night, when the cop told me to take it home and don't drive it again until I put exhaust on it, but it's been reliable. I've been knocking down 27mpg w/ 3.73's and a 6spd.

Re: Anyone Here Daily Drive Their LS1 3rd gen?
27mpg? That's pretty good... Gas mileage isn't all that bad (but isn't all that great) in my high mileage L03.... I think I need to go ahead and start shopping for my LS1... Would gas mileage be slightly lower for me with me having a 700R4 behind it?

Re: Anyone Here Daily Drive Their LS1 3rd gen?
yea, the six speed will get better millage than an auto....it has 2 over drive gears, which also means you could run lower gears without sacrificing the top end very much. go with a six speed and ls1!

What about the new 6-speed Auto trannies? I've only heard of them, but not sure what comes with them or what.

Re: Anyone Here Daily Drive Their LS1 3rd gen?
The Commodores over here have them behind the LSx engines for the last few years. The G8 has them too (same car). I have been thinking about the LSx conversion for my car, it's daily. The main thing holding me back (other than money
) is the fact that there is no-one over here with a third-gen the has one in it. That means there's not easy access to info other than online. I don't want the car off the road for too long as I don't like having to use public transport to get around.

Re: Anyone Here Daily Drive Their LS1 3rd gen?
and before I sold it to Steve I drove it daily as well. Very reliable, drivable and fun. I highly recommend this type of swap. It'll be my engine of choice for my next project, too.
