Lt1 throttle linkage

How are people connecting the LT1 throttle linkage with a TPI throttle/cable?

I know that you could just use a TPI throttle body, but I have a nice 58mm LT1 one sitting here. I could think of a few ways to modify it to work but I’d like to use the throttle cam that’s built into it to prevent the big throttle body/sudden big opening thing that you get.

Just the same as connecting it to the TPI throttle body, the only spot its different is where it attaches to the cable bracket on the intake manifold, its a little different but it will still slide in and stay in place.

Have to make sure you use a 91-92 TPI throttle cable. I ended up modifying where the plastic holder for the cable went into the bracket but the cable itself went right into the TB.

Re: Lt1 throttle linkage

Um, does that mean that the ’91-92 cable has a cable style end?

The 2 TPI cars I have are both 87’s and they have a rigid end that slides over a pivot pin on the TB arm and there is no way that I could wrap around the cam like arm on the LT1 TB. I have an LT1 car as well as a b-body LT1 sitting around also, all of which use the cam like linkage...

Yes the newer cable has the same end as the LT1, sorry, I forgot about the early stuff being different.

Re: Lt1 throttle linkage

The cable for an 89-92 is the same. I am still using my factory 90 TPI cable with my LT1.

How did the 1989 - 1992 cable work out for you? I just put an LT1 throttle body on a TPI plenum. Why, I like the large cam throttle rate and my TPI TB was worn out. I have a 1989 (cammed) throttle body and cable that I tried. I didn't like the setup because it would change the throttle pedal position. In the end, I modified an LT1 bracket and went with the LT1 cable.

I did some measuring and the distance between the TB cable hook-up and the bracket on the LT1 intake is different than on a 1989 TPI intake. The cable lengths are different. It seems that using the 1989-92 TPI cable on the LT1 intake will make it so the pedal is way off the floor at WOT and will make it easier to break the cable. Any broken cables out there from a heavy foot?

Re: Lt1 throttle linkage

I'm using a '91 TPI cable on my LT1 and don't have any pedal problems at all, but then again I am using a 4th gen pedal setup also.

Re: Lt1 throttle linkage

I'm using a TPI cable with the original pedals on the LT1 TB and haven't had any issues
