what a lovely deal...

I just came into an amazing deal...a wrecked 94 camaro with an LT1 (it is perfectly fine!)...so here is my question...I am planning to get the astro performance T5...will I need a different bellhousing? will it work? i belive the input shafts are 26 spline for both the t56 and t5...and would I have to get some type of swap headers or can i just buy headers for the lt1/lt4 and use those (i am gonna make my own exhaust too...)
and what would be a good cam and heads to reach 450-500 horsepower? afr heads look lovely... but whats a good cam, that has a nice wide power band?
Thanks!

Is it an auto car, or are you for some crazy reason trying to avoid using the T56 and use a T5 with it ?

If its auto and you are going to put a T5 behind it, then you will need to use a V8 thirdgen setup, completely the same as 86-92 (1 piece flywheel) the real issue is that the vss is completely different for the pulse, and you really want to have that functioning properly.

Headers really depend on the power you are loooking to make, fabrication you are willing to do, and $ you are willing to spend.

Heres the order of what will work, from my top choice to the bare min. Top to bottom

Hawks (made by stainless works) 1.75" longtubes
Dyno Dons 1.75" shorties
SLP 1.75" shorties
Hedman 1 5/8 D port shorties
Hedman 1 5/8 D port longtubes

You can also use the hooker 2210 longtubes, but they take away so much ground clearance i wouldnt use them.

Re: what a lovely deal...

well... its not that i dont want a t56 its just that i dont wanna get a custom driveshaft and a custom crossmember... and also yes the donor car is a auto... so that transmission is useless to me... i an gonna sell it... the astro super t5 withstands up to 500 lbs of torque... and it bolts directly into where mine is... no mods or fabrication... another thing... i an gonna put a sphon k member... would that cause any problems... thanks!

1st. The LT1's T56 just requires a different crossmember, the driveshaft stays the same.

2nd. This "astro super T5" isnt going to withstand 500 ft lbs, end of story, it may survive if you stay on street tires and dont make too much power, but its gonna break. Whatever you spend on this is money that will be wasted when it does break and you could have put it towards a T56.

The spohn K member will only make things easier.

Re: what a lovely deal...

another thing that caught my eye as i was reading... i wont be able to get the sphon k-member for a while... would there be any way wo make ANY of the 94 front suspension work on a thirdgen(1986 to be exact...)? k-member, control arms, would any of it work with little or no fabrication(that could be done at home with no special tools)? thanks!

NO

The rear suspension however is the same.

Re: what a lovely deal...

damn...about the headers...i am looking to make 450-500 horsepower...i figuered some afr LT4 195s and an LT4 air gap manifold would help get me there...which headers would work best for this...and i read ther may need to some notching done to the k-member for the a/c with an lsx swap, is this also true for an lt1?
Thanks for the info so far!

Re: what a lovely deal...

if your looking for 450-500hp id go with longtube headers, and im sure you will get mixed opnions on which ones to go with, but id say at least get longtubes

+1 - In all honesty, it doesn't matter what parts you put inside a T5. The actual case itself isn't beefy enough to withstand serious power. Sorry...

Unless the LT4 air gap is being gave to you dont waste your money on it.

Re: what a lovely deal...

yeah i figured full length/long tube headers... what is bad about the air gap, which intake would be good for it?
And would anyone know about the notching of the k-member?

Re: what a lovely deal...

excellent! do you think the ac relocation kit is worth it? or should i just beat/cut the k-member? and does anyone make custom ac and power steering lines for this conversion or would i have to order them specially for my car?

There isnt a whole lot of clearance needed to fit the a/c compressor, you can cut a notch out, IMO a much nicer appearance, or a little bit of work with the hammer can also take care of it. I do offer fuel lines and a PS pressure hose for the swap. However after finding most headers dont really allow for a decent a/c line routing, i've held back on the a/c lines.

Re: what a lovely deal...

yes he does. I have a set of his fuel lines and they are excellent. If you want the power steering lines go buy a power steering line for a 95 impala. High pressure line. It can be bent with little effort to fit right. Then just buy some regular power steering line and run return line and just clamp it on.

Re: what a lovely deal...

this is kinda bit off...but what would it take to make it carbeurated? would there still be a way to use the elctric fuel pump and such? would it be worth it, because they always seem to make more power for the LSx engines that i ahve read that are carbed...just a thought because i saw the 'going old school threa' and thought about it...
