I saw a member on the board running the ls1 fans and radiator. Looked clean! Now I cant find the link! Anyone runnin em?

We are running the rad but the stock fans, the driver side is spaced out 1"on the bottom to clear the rad.
Now let me explain why we are running the ls rad. If you look at the two rad's the ls water pump intake is near the top of the driver side where the stock is at the bottom pass and vice versa for the therm outlet. Now if you use and (not saying it wont work) the stock rad it has to stay completely toped off but since the ls pump intake is a little lower on the tank it stays completely submersed so the pump never runs dry.
The ls is just a bit shorter length wise it has never given us a problem w over heating even down here in hot *** Texas

no different than my LT1 radiator/fan setup in my '87. No overheating problems here either.
Im running the LS1 rad and LS1 fan set up... Worked perfect. Takes alittle to fit it... but it works, and I didnt have to get creative with the steam line or anything like that. Unrelated...but I also used the LS1 a/c condensor. So it all sits in there as one nice unit.
And since I used the LS1 fuse blocks, no wiring or relay work was needed to make the fans work 100% like they are supposed to.
My car rarely gets above 180 even on hot days...has a 160 t-stat... I also used the LS1 overflow bottle. Everything worked out great, and Ill be using that set up in my swap this summer as well.
Im not sure if I have any good pictures, but if you have specific questions, I can tell you what I did.

I'm serously thinking to do the swap. My third ged radiators seen better days and hate the stock fan setup. If you have any pics try to post them. Thanks

I asked for the fans with my LS1/T56. I should have asked for everything, as I don't have a way to mount them now (my car had mechanical fan). I haven't tried looking in JY's for the stuff, but I did find a 3rd gen dual fan upper radiator mount - I haven't figured out yet if it's going to help me.

Ill check about pics... I dont have many tho. Just a couple of how the rad cap sits. Originally Posted by Blownz28man

Thanks But...Im going to be taking the car apart soon. Not sure what your timeframe is on doing the swap, but I could snap pics when taking it apart. You'll have to ignore the busted and bent radiator support...
but you'll get the point.I will tell you that it fits without too much trouble. You can more or less ignore the fans. Because they sit right on the rad, there isnt much you have to do.
On the bottom of the rad, there is a nipple. You have to either make a hole for it to sit in, or cut it off. I cut mine off. The 4th gen rad is not as wide as the 3rd gen. Since you wont be using the 4th gen condensor most likely, you'll be able to center the rad. I had to push it to the pass. side as far as I could. But it worked out good.
I have a gap on the drivers side, that I blocked off with some foam so air wouldnt go around the rad too much. Ive been toying with the idea of making a sheet metal scoop off of that and trying to get some of the air to feed into the engine bay. Might be a waste of time...but whatever.
The part that takes some fabbing and fitting is the rad hold down. You gotta cut it, and fit it until it holds the rad down the way its supposed to. I drilled a new hole for the one rubber holder and moved it over too. So its solid, rattle free, and there are no issues.
There are write ups on here for making the rad fit, and Im sure there are pcitures. I probably used them at some point.
The wiring isnt too bad. even if you dont have the LS1 and LS1 fuse blocks. You'll want to put relays on them, or however you want to wire them. Im sure someone can chime in on wiring the dual fans up for optimum performance.

Looks good! You have any problems with your install?? Cool the car well?
Here is a shot or two of mine. like I said, I dont have many good shots. Also, mine will look a bit different since Im using that condensor, and things are shifted a bit.
Ignore the dirt/rust/mess... This was at the peak of the build pretty much...haha. Things are still in the "tweak" stage.

Here is a decent shot of the gap on the drivers side. The condensor is out in this pic. So the gap isnt as big. But...more importantly, you can see where I moved the rubber isolator. You can see the hole where it was, and where it sits now. The passenger side I left alone.

My only point of trimming... It was hitting the spohn wonder bar a bit. Just some of the support bracing of the fans. no biggie. Just trimmed until it fit.

My next time around, Im fitting the rad before the motor goes in. I want to cut and weld a few areas to make it fit better. And Im also thinking about fabbing my own hold down so that it looks alittle cleaner. We'll see.

EDIT: Oh...I should also mention that my radiator support are alittle bent. i think the car was in an accident before I got it. So they were always alittle tweaked.

Check out 'firebirdjones LS1 fans' on the search function on this site. Nice and clean set-up.
