91 camaro motor swap

I just bought a 95 LT1 police interceptor out of a caprice automatic. Want to swap it for the 305 TBI. What do I need to do as far as the harness and ECM to make it work with the 5 spd. trans

Re: 91 camaro motor swap

To make the engine itself work with the car, a lot has to be reworked, to get it to fit properly, and connect up to the car. Connectors where things hookup are on opposite sides of the car so quite a few wires need to be relocated to get them in the correct locations. The caprice harness has a few other things like wipers etc as part of the engine harness that you would want to remove just to clean things up, and make it easier to work on.

Using a T5 with an LT1 so far has either been done by programming out the codes for the VSS, which really isnt the best way to do things, some others have come up with a way to mount a vss near the driveshaft, with a custom ring on it for the vss signal. The T5's stock VSS at 4000 Pulse / mile is nowhere even in the same range as the T56's 17 tooth reluctor on the output shaft (17 pulses per driveshaft revolution). Or the automatics 40 tooth reluctor.

The newer V6 4th gens got a tremec T5 (tremec now owns the T5/T56 and makes them) and it uses a 17 tooth reluctor like the T56, i've got my hands on both a spare thirdgen V8 T5, and a V6 4th gen T5, and am working on seeing if the reluctor can just be swapped over, if the tail housing will be necessary to go along with it, or if the whole mainshaft will need to be used.

Re: 91 camaro motor swap

Hey thanx for the help. I have another question. Don't you think it would be easier just to drop a built old school 350 4 bolt main with a 4 barrel carb opposed to the computerized LT1? Just need some technical feed back on the wiring. Thank you
