Wrote a 3rdgen fbody specific swap manual

I've never found enough info all in one place so I wrote up my own tech article on putting an LS1 in an 82-92 camaro/firebird
Go to www.team3rdgen.com and on the left side under information check out "ls1 conversion" and let me know what you think.

I know a few links are dead, and I am still ironing it out but overall most of the info is there.
I put it all up fast so let me know if I need to add/change anything.
Mods if you feel it's got anything useful, as long as you give myself and the site credit, you can hyperlink to the writeup in the faq.

Anyway hopefully this helps someone else out doing the swap.

Re: Wrote a 3rdgen fbody specific swap manual

You mention "At one point there was a bracket made to mount the 3rdgen A/C compressor to the stock location on an LS1. This bracket is near impossible to find these days, but you could get lucky. You could also fabricate your own since there isn't much in that area of the passenger head once you remove the EGR."

Was this from a different chassis or aftermarket? AC is a MUST in TX!

He's referring to the F-body Motorsports aka Youngs F-body Motorsports ac bracket. I bought one, waited the 4.5 months to finally receive it. By then, I just gave up on the project all together.

I should put it up for sale along with some other parts and recoup some money.

Re: Wrote a 3rdgen fbody specific swap manual

Aaron Im heading home today after work to try to get some work done on my car. If you have any pictures you'd like in better detail, or additional photos to stuff Ive done...let me know. I can snap a few for ya. Tonight will be shifter hole cutting, wiring harness hole cutting for inside PCM install, intake removal, and hopefully LS7 clutch and trans re-assembly. That's awesome! I didn't get to read through it yet, but that should help out a lot of people, myself included if I ever get the chance to do the swap.

On the LS1 swap page...

How do you know at what height to set the 3rd gen float level at, to read correctly?

And I can read the text in that pic. Maybe make the overall pic width wier, to put larger text next to it?

Make sure when the float arm is up it is still just below the top of the bucket assembly.

clicking on any pic opens it bigger in it's own window

I did & that was what I was referring to. Can't read it, well, a FEW words, but not enough to make sense out of it. And before you ask, I have a 17" monitor, not a tiny one.

IE resizes it to whatever size window you have open. You need to make expand the pic. Trust me it's you not the pic being small.

Sorry, your wrong....It opened in it's own window. Even full screen. I like how you keep trying to point the error to my end, but I had it full screen, plus enlarged it after that. It gets bigger, sure. But just gets blurry.....

Just trying to help. My bad. I'll just stop trying.

Re: Wrote a 3rdgen fbody specific swap manual

I'm not having that problem. I can read it full sized and resized...

Maybe try saving it and viewing in a different program...zoomed in?

Firefox:
Click on link, opens new tab. Click on LS1 Swap link, opens new tab. Click on picture, opens new tab. Picture larger but not full screen.

IE:
Click on link, opens new window. Click on LS1 Swap link, opens new window. Click on picture, opens new window - picture larger but not full screen.

Probably depends upon the browser being used and the settings chosen.

Re: Wrote a 3rdgen fbody specific swap manual

Comes up full size for me in I.E. Text is 100% readable and big.... Some of the pictures seemed alittle squished the other night...but they are all readable and clear either way... Weird that stephen had an problem viewing it.

Did you ever get a chance to test out your fuel gauge solution? If so, how accurate is it?
