Build and Swap general questions...

So I am picking up a disassembled LT1 tomorrow, it came out of a 96 Z28. The motor is disassembled because the head gaskets blew due to what looks like electrolysis ( 1/4" Deep nasty gouges between the coolant passages and combustion chambers) Luckily this is one of the meatiest places on a cylinder head and my machinist is going to weld them and surface them for a reasonable price.

I am getting the whole thing, manifold, injection system, wiring harness, you name it...
Is it possible to wire this in to my existing harness? What computer should I use (Trying for smog legal swap)
Would it just be best to get a 4l60E?
What do I need to do this swap?

Re: Build and Swap general questions...

Ok, so the heads did not have electrolysis, both heads have a small crack that can be welded and the pits were from being scorched when the motor overheated.
My machinist is looking them over and is going to let me know if they are fixable. Ether way I am not upset, I only paid $170 for the motor and I have the manifold wire harness and all that good stuff so I will probably pick up a 94-96 computer and a new transmission and wire it up after I finish the build.

I need to get a manual for this motor, anyone know if there is a build sheet online?

Have you tryed this https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...questions.html
Your best bet is a 4l60E if you are going to stay with a auto. And yes you wire it in to your harness.

Re: Build and Swap general questions...

Actually I did look over that briefly but I will look into it more carefully.

I want to use the harness that came with the motor and I don't want to add the difficulty of switching over to a manual transmission when I swap because its my daily driver and I am going to paint when I have the drive train out on top of the swap.
So I need to use the 96 Computer with the MAF censor... Is this going to be a wiring nightmare? Has anyone done a conversion with the newer style LT1s?
My desire is to take it to the ref and get a motor change sticker for it...
I might wait until smog and then see if I cant just smog it and deal with it at that point if they wont let me smog.

Also, I have a mechanical cluster... Can I convert over an keep the mechanical cluster without the computer bitching up a storm?
