Got my Speartech LS1 harness mostly put in and have the battery & ignition sources for the ECM to hook up inside the cabin (the ecm is where the original ecm was). What have others been hooking into? I thought about using the fuse panel areas for extra tie ins - but they are only rated for 35W each... Any suggestions?

 

Shouldn't the battery go straight to the battery, not inside where there is only ignition power.
I hooked a few up to the power wires coming out of the plug that used to power the old ecm on the passenger side.
That wasn't a speartech harness though.

 

Yeah I didn't take note of what fuse requirements the new Speartech had - but I want to say it was 3 30 w fuses (2 bat, 1 ign) that then hook to the ecm (anybody want to clarify that? I'm away from the car for another week). Which puts a 60w load on one wire to hook for battery. I'm okay with running a line from the engine compartment into the cabin just for the ecm...but thought it would be cleaner if there was a place ready to hook up to nearby.

 

for my lt1 i just took the pink ignition wire and the red power dist wire and cut them off the back of the c100 connector and spliced there. for the battery i spliced into the red wire, just strip a 1 inch or so section off the pwr wire and run the orange ( the battery wire was orange on my speartech harness) wire through, wrap it a few times and solder. the pink ign wire i just cut and spliced with speartechs and everything worked fine. He put a fuseblock on my harness so i didnt have worry about fuses. I dont know if he did that to yours or not.

the colors are for my 91 they may vary for your setup.

 

for what I was talking about I only used those old ecm wires to trip a relay and the relay got it's power from the battery. That way the load was on the relay not the old ecm wires.

 

Bingo.. Thats what Ide do. Ide set up a relay system. Use alittle heavier gauge wire, and have an "ignition hot" wire from the fuse block to trigger the relay for your "ign power". For battery hot, Ide be tempted to run a nice new wire out to the battery...along with the one that is going through your ign hot relay.
