looking for hawks k-member pics

I just got a hawks k-member with the built in LSx stands on it. Does anybody have pics of their swap in progress using this setup? Just trying to get some ideas for my install. Thanks, Bill

Re: looking for hawks k-member pics

thanks for the pics. The one I ended up with has the mounts/stands made to it so I don't have the option for different mounts on the block other than solid/poly. I sure like that Skulte peice though. If I hadn't already done the UMI peice for the th350 swap I'd be looking at that one for sure. I also opted for the integrated driveshaft loop on mine too. Thanks again, Bill
PS, nice looking install you've got going. Good luck with it!!

no, it's not even remotely the same other than it mounts the motor. My k-member has the LSx stands welded to it. Doesn't use a plate-type mount that bolts on. Thanks though........ Bill

Re: looking for hawks k-member pics

Im confused... The "Hawks" k-member IS the Spohn k-member... So it IS remotely close... When did you purchase it? Did you order it, or buy it off of someone else? I seem to remember Spohn offering one with the mount PEDESTALS already in place...but I thought now they just came with the flat mounts, and you can bolt whatever conversion stirrup you want on there. Then run poly or rubber or whatever you want for the clamshell....

This isnt what you have?

yes, and it's STILL never been bolted under anything. I'm using factory clamshells that bolt to these stands. I was just curious if anyone had a shot of this IN the car. It's not that big of a deal, just curious about fitment and where everything will fit. I'm dealing with Appleton right now on trying to get a non-power rack for it. I have no use for this rack as my car will primarily be a track/weekend warrior...especially when the big motor goes in. The 346 will be a break-in motor to get everything working the way I want. Thanks for the looks so far..... Bill

Re: looking for hawks k-member pics

Quick question, will that Skulte crossmember work with the LS1 style T56 in a LS1/T56 swap?? That will come in handy with the way Hawks conversion headers exit inside the framerails...
Thanks

Hey mike,

Do you see any issues with the spohn K-member X-brace (the rod that goes between the 2 front forks of K) vey close to the inner tie rods ?

This was mentioned by a spohn tech.......just wondering what he was talking about

TT i am using the hawks conv headers and will be adding a texas speed 228/228 r .585/.585 on 112 cam and ls6 intake i already have 3.70 gears in the nine bolt. The crossmember went rather easily i just had to move brake lines a little no biggie!

Looking foward for this too. How was your k-member install? Motor lined up easily? Overall feeling?

Man that tie rod clearance thing is holding me from buying this. I would REALLY love to know whats up with that . They are 10% off this weekend.

Re: looking for hawks k-member pics

Hey Mike,

4 get our demands and dont rush it......its ur project , enjoy it and ur family comes first!!

While u take measurements of clearence for the steering linkage, how much clearence do u have with the coil and bracket by the 3rd gen A/C box ? looks like a lot of room to me from the picture even though u dont have the coils on.

Set the last coil and bracket and take some picturs if it isnt too much trouble.

Re: looking for hawks k-member pics

ok guys got a little done ill post pics a little later. The inner tie rods are pretty close and i do have moogs. I havent put the springs or a arms on but a quick mock up tells me im close but should be in the clear.
The rear passenger side coil is xtremely close to the ac box .ps remember to take out the coil bracket stud or you will do like me and smash your box. I did finish bolting evrything together. evrything lined up very well and close just needed a little tweaking . I had to slot the skulte crossmember just a lttle and she was done .

Re: looking for hawks k-member pics

quick update got the pedals in and evrything bolted down nice and tight . I willl soon be test fitting the hydraulics and steering . Note i ran into problems with passenger side coils and header . I must not have her high enough or not holding my mouth right.I cant decide to clearence the ac box or hunt for the truck coils.

Another possible solution that I've seen for others that have run into the same issue - bend the mounting bracket so that the rear-most coil is sitting perpendicular to the valve cover. The only downside I can think of to this is that all of the coils aren't all symmetrical as in a stock setup, but it should function identically...

Re: looking for hawks k-member pics

OK, back to my original stuff. I've been fairly busy getting things going. K=member is in, arms are on coil-overs are installed and now I'm fitting the new front brakes. Here's some shots.....

hope to have the motor stuck in over the holidays so I can finish the plumbing and wire it. Should be easy with the MSD and carb setup. Then again, it depends on my honeydo list too......
