Its alive!

I have very few words right now but you can watch the video! First start attempt. After all the time and money we've spent this feels like a huge milestone though the car is far from finished.

86 IROC, LS6 engine with ~5k miles, freshly rebuilt 4l60e (will test tranny tomorrow). If the transmission works the drivetrain is complete, just gotta button it up and its driveable.

Re: Its alive!

i'm gonna be doing the same thing hopefully next week! i have a question for you, since you're running a 4l60e. did you have to do anything to make sure there was power spicifically to the trans or does the power come through the pcm? i have power constant power and switched power going to the pcm but i'm not sure if i need anything to the trans specifically.

Everything I've seen is just power to the PCM.

But, I don't get out much. . .

Huh...how'd I miss this?

Congrats man!!! That first start is such a crazy feeling! Is it gonna start....is it gonna catch fire....will the motor eat itself??? Haha. That was running through my head when it was my time to test things out. Except my victory was cut short by VATS...and yours was a complete success!!

Nice work and Im looking forward to seeing another one complete and driving!

I'm sure this has been a nerve wrecking swap since you stated in the video that you didn't even know if the engine worked! (EESH!)
So,I hope you had your diaper on!(as the lovely narrator suggested)LOL!!

There are two connectors to the 4l60e, neither or which I provided power to so I hope its all from the PCM My harness is not a stock one, its a stand alone I got from a guy online and it is beautiful and stand alone. Its awesome and a great price! I say this because I therefore do not know if there is anything to do with a stock wire harness.

Thanks for all the kind words guys! The story behind the engine is I got it from a guy who was going through a rough time and needed cash. He used to own a boat business for many years but it went under, then he got disabled (i forget how). Anyway it was a fluke I found it on craigslist in some tiny region. The engine was a crate engine that some guy bought for an 01 corvette to replace the LS1. Then when the next LS engine came out he took the LS6 out and put in another one. The guy I bought it from bought it to put in a duster (which was there too, and sweet). So this engine reportedly has less than 5k miles. But as far as I know its all a "story". Thats why I said I didn't know if it worked. When I picked it up the guy had it on a stand and we did a leak-down test and compression test while I was there. When I opened the oil pan up it looked brand new and the heads were very clean. So I believe the "story" may be accurate, but I feel much better now that it started

fyi, hawks has SPOHN drop ship those directly to you. it's not on Hawks, it's spohn's job to make sure they get to you in a timely manner.

i got mine in less than 5 business days.

Yes, updates...

The y-pipe is almost complete, probably tomorrow night. I am doing a 2.5" stainless y-pipe into a 3" catback. The catback is complete, we just need to finish matching up the y-pipe to the catback.

Gauges have arrived but I haven't been able to put them in yet. I hope by monday I will have the gauges in. Everything is straight forward except the water temp gauge so keep your fingers crossed it all works out. I am using Revolution gauges by Speedhut and so far I think they are awesome.

I will post up some more pictures this weekend.

I took a year to source the longblock, all the accessories, tranny, do some real world stuff. A lot of time was spent waiting for parts as I found out what I needed.

If I had a complete drop-out it would have cut my time down drastically.
