I'm seriously considering an engine swap into my 1992 RS. After a lot of consideration of modding the L03 I have in it, I've decided it would be much cheaper to just swap in a new motor than mod the TBI.

I have a friend that used to own an early 00's Silverado pick-up with the 5.3 vortec. It was stock and I tell you, that thing hauled ***. I just checked eBay and I'm finding them for very reasonable prices, like half of what an LS1 swap would be.

Would this motor swap in pretty nicely? Mount up to my 700R4? Anyone done a swap similar to this before?

 

It's an LSx swap.

You might be able to get the engine for half what an LS1 would cost you, but you'd still have the swap costs themselves. Plus, you'd need f-body LS1 intake, accessories and oil pan.

I don't believe it would mount up directly to a TH700R-4. You'd need a spacer behind the flexplate (I think - I haven't heard that the 5.3 had the longer crank like the early 6.0's had).

Its no different then a regular LS1. Cept only the long block is usable.

700R4 can be used, find a 4L80e flex/spacer.
