LS cold air intake
Hey guys, I was about to piece together my cold air intake when I decided to give an LS intake at AutoZone a try. Its a "Speed by Spectre" intake P/N 9900. Its $150 ($130 online) and since piecing it together was going to cost about the same I figured might as well try it before ordering the parts. So here are the results...
I couldn't use it positioned as they said (since its for trucks), but rearranging the parts gave me this. It also comes with some guards to block out warm air and I haven't tried to see if they are useful or not. The red circles are brackets to hold the tube, if I keep it I will be cutting them off. It expects you to have an "MAF OE rubber ring and clamp" which I do not have but this is to attach to the huge filter but I think any 4" clamp should work. Since I pieced my engine together I have not seen this piece.
My wife loves the look. I like it well enough and it does fit well. The filter is frickin huge but I am still able to position the ls cruise under it so things should work out nicely.
Anyway, just wanted to share...
Oh, and its a 4" intake all the way to the MAF and again, the filter is HUGE.

I saw Jegs lists the intake for $105.99 so I went back to AutoZone with the print-out and they matched it.

Re: LS cold air intake
It's definitely a decent-looking intake tract, but if you could isolate the cone filter from underhood air* it would be just about perfect.

I can't find it on Jegs website. Do you have a direct link to it?
Does it come with more elbows and straight pieces? I'd need more to clear some accessories

Re: LS cold air intake
it does look really nice,
i also agree about shielding it more form underhood heat, even a simple heat shield surrounding it will help, use a piece of flashing or something like.

Looks good!
Im going to re-do my intake this summer. My only issue is, I have my LS1 fuse boxes over in that area that the filter would sit. So Im going to try to clean up those boxes some, and get them to sit lower. Try to get the filter tract to go up and over the boxes, and mount the filter under the battery tray. Not sure how its gonna work out...but I can watch my IATs...and they get pretty high when Im putzing around in the car.

A little off topic, but what color did you use to paint the intake with? Is it the exact body colour? Looks nice.
I really like that intake as well, wouldn't be too hard to make a box around it.

Looks good! I have a very simular setup but I have mine on the opposite side and I left it at 3.5 inch.
Are there any known issues with having the MAF right up to the filter as opposed to closer to the TB where there is less turbulance???

I haven't painted the car yet but yes it will all be the same color. I don't have the paint code handy but we mixed it up custom. It is similiar to the factory blue but its deeper, has pearl, and metallic. Member

Re: LS cold air intake
MAF right on the filter shouldnt cause any problems. all the K&N systems in trucks, GTO's, etc run the filter right on the MAF.

Re: LS cold air intake
IDEALLY you'd be able to have at least 4"-5" on either side of the MAF where there's only straight tubing - that way, you wouldn't have any chance of turbulence anywhere near the MAF, but in the real world, sometimes you need to make compromises.
If that's the case, I'd think it would be better to have the MAF closer to the cone filter than to the TB.

Oh I also forgot to ask, the expansion plug in your EGR hole, is it 1 3/8"? I bought a 1 5/8" plug today but its too big XD
