I just got my hands on a LS1 4th gen tank complete with lines/pump, and a ls1 10 bolt complete with brakes/lines eveything...
$250 bux for both,
I wasn't originally planning on using the 4th gen tank but since it has the lines and fuel pump i figured it was a score...
My question is: Is there any reason to run a separate fuel pressure regulator? I don't see why I would need one since I am using the 4th gen tank/pump/lines/and engine.
I just saw that there is a regulator on Hawks and wanted to know if I need this for my LS1 swap ...

Using the LS1 tank & pump are the way to go, for a LS1 swap, rather than trying to get your 3rd gen tank up to the LS1 needs.
And to answer your question....no. Nothing else is needed. The LS1 will run off of the 4th gen tank just like...well a 4th gen
Nothing extra is needed. Hook the feed line to the fuel rail, give the pump power and youre good (well not quite THAT simple..but close).J.
Awesome, Thanks fellas. Just what I wanted to hear!
Just a word of warning... If you havent already, check out the threads on getting a fuel gauge to work wtih the 4th gen tank. It causes some complications. There are a few fairly easy solutions that range from retrofitting the thirdgen sender onto the 4th gen fuel tank sump to going with a programmable fuel gauge.
Just make sure you have your bases covered there so you dont have any surprises.

Ask me how I found out the hard way a V6 tank ( looks identical ) does NOT have a regulator built in..... grrrrr
Check the PN on the tank through the dealer and make sure its from a V8 car and it will have the reg. If its a V6 tank there is none but its still good and powers my 400ish rwhp on the stock pump but through a Vette filter as a reg. I would have changed the pump had I realized it was from a V6 but it took me all season to figure out it was not a V8 LS1 tank and it had been running fine so i left it. Hope it holds up

Will do, Thanks Cam! (guy says it was from 02 SS, but my cousin works for Chevrolet, so I will give him the number)
Does your fuel gauge work? or how did you get it to work?

I swapped fuel level senders to make it work with my stock gauge

Dont bother, the 94 tank is the same as a thirdgen tank, the plastic LS1 tank being talked of came in 99.Originally Posted by icebird84

If your stock third gen tank is not leaking and usable its better to stick with that for a few reasons.
The big issue is LT1's use much lower fuel pressure than LS1's so the LT1 fuel pump is no good for LS1 use. Seeing as you would need to swap the fuel pump and still have to add the proper regulator basically you'd be swapping out the tank for nothing more gained than the tank itself. Plus I dont think iirc that the LT1 tanks have the great little baffle system in place like the LS1 tanks to to prevent fuel starvation on hard launcehs/cornering etc. Not sure about that though

How similar? Would a LT1 fuel pump and sending unit fit into a 3rd gen tank?Originally Posted by SheldonZ28

Dont think this has been tried by anyone that posts here. I've never seen nor heard of trying this but I dont think there is much advantage over doing this vs just upgrading the stock TPI pump and using the stock third gen sending unit. Sounds like more work than its worth unless your going from carb over to injection and happen to have an LT1 sender. In that case I'd probably try to see if it fitsOriginally Posted by Rich2279

I'll be using a '95 Camaro instrument cluster and I'm not sure the 3rd gen sender will give an accurate reading on the 4th gen fuel guage. I currently have an '89 w/ a LT1 going in there. Least expensive option is to just buy a stock TPI pump and use my 3rd gen sending unit.Originally Posted by cam-
