Super Chevy mag Trailblazer 6.0 H/C Swap article
Did you see this? http://www.superchevy.com/technical/...ons/index.html
From 305 HP/330 torque to 450 HP/415 torque - at the wheels. Trick Flow heads, Comp cam, shorty headers, full exhaust, CAI. Stock intake manifold.
Pretty impressive. Has me thinking about 6.0/4L80E for the '57. The truck intake should fit under its hood. Hmmm...

This is the same thing that LS2 owners in the Vette and GTO have been doing for more power.
Although I think the LS3 (L92) heads and intake (L72) plus a cam are a better deal than the TFS heads. Ported L92 heads can handle up to 700hp (350cfm per intake port).
A fully optimized LS3 can put out 550hp or 1.5hp/ci.

I have a buddy of mine with an '08 Trailblazer, it is an LS2, not the LQ9/LQ4 6.0 though, so you could put an LS2 intake on it and gain some more HP, the TrailblazerSS was rated at 390 at the flywheel where the LS2 was 400.....well 10 more hp stock though.
Using the L92 heads you have to use an intake made for the L92, with the heads for the LS2 you can use the LS2/LS6 intake on it. AFR makes probably some of the best heads for the 6.0s right now that I know of.

Well, I do have an LS2 intake in the garage attic. I was under the impression the truck intake was capable of a little more power, though.

Re: Super Chevy mag Trailblazer 6.0 H/C Swap article
the engine is actually rated less with the truck intake than with the LS2....but it also does have a huge clutch fan on the front.....now I"m curious to see how much it would make with the truck intake and no clutch fan

Ken Duttweiler tested intakes on a Modified LQ9. Going from the truck intake to the LS6 piece gained 10 horses. From LS6 to LS2 lost 10 horses. From LS2 to FAST gained 20 horses. $900 for the FAST versus $300 for the LS6. I'm not paying $600 for only 10 horses.

Yeah, 600 bucks for 10 more hp is really dumb....but you can put a 90mm TB on it....and it's a pretty grey color......
I wonder if anyone has tested the LS2 in the Trailblazer without the clutch fan to see what they picked up.
It's the only SUV I would ever own.....

Re: Super Chevy mag Trailblazer 6.0 H/C Swap article
Articles like the one that five7 linked to are the reason that my car is as 'torn apart' as it is today...

Yep - when I saw the numbers, I realized that the 'AFR-headed Gen-I 383' that I was buying parts for would never be the equal of the new technology (at least as far as power with driveability goes).
And (the way that I understand it), the truck intake is acknowledged as one of the best stock intakes out there - & although it loses a little bit up top compared to the L76 "car-style" intake, it's generally worth a few HP below 6000 or so (going from memory on that, but the basic idea is correct). If you look at "intake to intake", the LS6 intake might flow a little bit more air than the truck intake, but then you're going back to cathedral port heads, which just don't support the airflow that the L92/LS3 heads do, so I rather doubt that you'd gain anything by using the LS6... (I guess that it ultimately depends on the combination though...)
And I'd love to see your '57 with a 6L!

A lot of the fastest "normal" build ups over at tech use TrickFlow heads. ( as in not exotic hand built ETP etc heads ) If I was buying aftermarket heads TrickFlow is what I would buy.
Re: Super Chevy mag Trailblazer 6.0 H/C Swap article
ls1 fans and a tune on a tbss ls2 puts down around 330 rhp and a little more torque. It takes a stock 14 sec trailblazer to a 13.5 or so trailblazer. The intakes on the trailblazers are designed for torque. People have lost torque going to the ls1/6 intake.

Well, the LS2 is rated at 400/400 and the TBSS is rated at 390/395 running the clutch fan and truck intake.
Curiosity again seeing if the torque would go over 400 without the fan on it.

I've got my eyes on a 2003 VIN "U" (LQ4, right?), 147k miles, complete engine/harness/accessories/PCM/4L80E. It would take about $2800 to get it home. The heads alone would almost double that. Plus cam, rockers, headers, everything else required for the swap . . .
Ever see that commercial "College Fund"? That's about what it would take for me to even dream of starting that now.

I am a member of tbssowners.com. From what I have read is that the ls1 fans give about 5 to 10 horsepower/torque. It would be it very close or slightly above the 400/400 mark. I own a tbss and I also have a set of fans for it. I have wanted to get it tuned and put the fans on, but I gave it to the wife so I can buy a 3rd gen in a few months.

I haven't looked around much. The 4L80E (vs. 4L60E or 4L70E) I thought should sweeten it up a little.
And, still a lot less than the typical LS1/T56 (at least back when I was looking for that).

the 90MM tbss intake manifold flows just as well as the ls6 intake, the 78mm intake flows less than a ls6 but more than ls1.
