Tick Performance Master Cylinder install

Has promised, here is a pic of my tick master install. My car is an original manual car. It wasnt a 100% bolt in mod but Id say 99%. The only thing preventing it from fitting perfectly was the wheel well getting a little bit in the way.

Thanks for the kind words cam. I am indeed taking the time to do it "right". But man... I cant wait to hop in the driver seat and take it out for a ride. Its been 5 years since I started this. Oh well, theres much more done then whats left to do.

Re: Tick Performance Master Cylinder install

Yeah its a lot of work to build something like this. Its funny but until you do it you have no idea I used to try to explain it to people who ask ( as in joe normal not a gear head type ) and now I dont really talk much about my car in the "real" world lol. I just vent here and there online to you lot who understand.

That first ride though? Pretty incredible moment. Hard to describe but so many hours and so much frustration and excitement all rolled into a visceral moment it really is quite amazing.

Then the real fun begins I just tear it apart and go at it again LOL when will i learn it'll never be "done" haha

Anyways your swap is looking pretty close now. Think it'll be running this year?

Amen that brother. lol
It should be running this year if the economic crisis doesnt strike me. Its not a good time to get in debt for a toy. Im missing a big piece: the rearend. So thats about 4k canadian right there. Then I need Z06 caliper kit, which will run me about 1.2 - 1.3k. So thats about 5k in 2 parts. Im still missing the radiator, exhaust and all the minor stuff. Once its done, its done tho. Im not putting it back to pieces, thats why Im trying to get only the best. The only thing that will be left is to mod the engine...

i believe thats a factory hole that usually just has a rubber plug in it. Not sure of its purpose.

Ya, there was a rubber grommet in the hole . I believe the wiper motor wires went thru it.

Looked more ragged, like it was freshly cut.

But, now that I think about it, my 82's have a hole there for the speedometer cable. . .

Aint that the truth???

Good stuff Spike. You'll like the master cylinder. Mine works great. I guess my holes werent TOO far off from stock, because I only had to bang on the wheel well alittle to make it fit.

Are you using 4th gen pedals or 3rd gen pedals...I forget...

J.

Using 3rd gen. Ill have to either replace the rod end (going to the pedal peg) or cut the 3rd gen peg and replace it with something smaller... 4th gen size.

SpikeZ-
Take heart. The 5yrs your car has been sitting has pretty much cleared the roads of the waste-o 3rd gens. Pretty much all that's left are the folks that really like them.
Your car will stop folks in their tracks, you too.

Re: Tick Performance Master Cylinder install

Guillaume,
Could you give me an idea how you went about cutting the hole for the Tick MC ? My main concerns is how to line the rod going inside the car to the peg on the clutch pedal. I am thinking it should also be level so it does not bind.

Appriciate the help man

Re: Tick Performance Master Cylinder install

Mine was a manual car as well. Went in pretty effortlessly after a few bangs with a hammer on the wheel well. Just needed a few taps for clearance near the fitting and she went in just fine.

Haven't hooked it up to the pedal yet ...

Re: Tick Performance Master Cylinder install

My Tick MC doesn't touch the fender well, but my car was auto to begin with and it's very possible that the hole isn't in the exact spot it would have been factory if it was a 5spd car. Everything works though so that's a good thing.

When I installed mine, I ended up having to take the aluminum block apart from the rod and putting the rod in from the interior of the car because the thing is so dang long and bulky, it's hard to squeeze it in that small spot with the brake booster and steering column installed.

Re: Tick Performance Master Cylinder install

I have to admit when I did my swap from auto to sick..this was part i had no clue how to do but Im using 4th gen pedals.I hung the pedals in place and used the clutch firewall bracket as my guide for making the hole using a holesaw drill bit.I took the rod off the mc aswell and with some imaginative maneuvering of my hand I was able to get it in without having to bang the fender etc.Havent had any issue at all using the 4th gen pedals and I love the mc combined with the ls7 clutch kit is soo smooth.

I also used this http://www.team3rdgen.com/modules/3r...gen_pedals.htm
helped alot for making things simple.

How close to Whitchita or Douglas Kansas are you? I'll be there in a few weeks or a month to pick up my dads car from paint and if you're not far out of the way maybe I can swing by to help cut the hole.

i'm about 4 hours away from wichita, i'm up in the northeast corner of the state. it would be pretty far out of your way probably. i sure appreciate the offer, however.

Re: Tick Performance Master Cylinder install

I started drilling the holes for the tick master and it's been a bit tricky for me. The shape of it is kinda awkward to mount and the wheel-well needed some massaging haha. It got some more work to do so I'll take pics trough my progress.
