Exactly how much of this stuff do I retain for an LSX swap?

Exactly how much of this stuff do I retain for an LSX swap?

So I finally got to start tearing apart my car to make room for the LSX I built for it. Now my real concern is how much crap do I remove from the engine compartment before I stop? Exactly what do I need to retain from the original parts that will be needed for the new setup? I have here a few pictures that show specific areas of concern. Also, I have heard that the only wiring I will need to keep is the wiring that comes out of the firewall by the brake booster on the driver side. So is it safe to say that ALL OTHER WIRING can be removed? I'm talking specific here, I really want to have a clean install with the LSX and some things I was questioning is, will the new wiring harness have the cables that run to the battery, and other important places?

Here are a few areas I was concerned about. First off, the heater core hoses:

Second, the EVAP stuff, at least I think that's what this is? And also the fuel lines that are pictured here?

If someone can help me better understand what I can take out, and what I need to keep, that would be awesome. A friend of mine came over and we started taking all kinds of things off the motor and I just want to be sure I'm not removing things that need to be retained. Thanks!

Well i'm sure the heater hoses will be needed and i don't see why they wouldn't work if your keeping the heat. I'd keep the main cables from the battery to the starter too.

IMO i wouldn't touch a single wire until you get that conversion harness done. Could help out a bunch later knowing what all the old wires did.

So..take off the acc's, intake, motor, trans (all the obvious stuff) move the throttle cable outa the way, keep the fuel lines where they are for now, idk im just thinking out loud here.

I would take the bumper cover off too if you got good paint.

Ehhh, the chin spoiler needs to be repainted. I'm not worried about it too much, the whole car is going to be repainted sometime after the swap is done, I'm just gonna spray the engine bay while the motor is out.

I won't have a wiring harness for probably another month, so if someone that knows for sure what I need to keep could help out that'd be awesome. Or better yet, Aaron (I know you'll read this sooner or later, or I'll pm you or something), you could come over and have a look-see and tell me what you think?

You talking about the EVAP canisters in behind the driver side headlight?

No the wireing for the valve thing (goes into the motor harness). IDK about the canister thing, i still got all that junk under my cover i made. "shrug" It's not doing nothing but adding weight, but idk what exactly to pull off.

Leave the wiring & vac lines for your a/c if you're keeping it (middle of the firewall). Set aside the wiring that comes out of the drivers side firewall connector (leave connected) and then trim what wires you do/don't need when you have your conversion harness. Use the autozone website for good diagrams for what's what if you don't have a Helms.

I'm getting a custom made harness made for me so hopefully it will have everything I need. I guess I'll have to call the guy that's gonna make it this week and talk to him about it.

you still have to connect the comversion harness to your car's wiring... all of the conversion wiring harness instructions i've seen end up tying into stuff from the c100 connector on the firewall for what its worth.

I would not cut anything off until u get ur LS1 harness. unplug and label.

Depending on what gas tank ur going to use. u can keep or remove ur fuel lines.

Same goes for ur brake lines depending if ur upgrading ur MC and brakes.

"u"?? "ur"?? PLEASE don't be that lazy man, it makes you look either illiterate or mentally defective as all hell... (Seriously - it gives a really bad impression.)

And getting back to the original topic - everything I've seen points to the new engine harness connecting to C100 (the bulkhead connector), but I'd confirm that before snipping anything...

Re: Exactly how much of this stuff do I retain for an LSX swap?

to get back on topic, id just remove the harness, label everything, and i mean everything, and wait till the new harness is there to go through every connection that you need. in the last pic the canister is evap, so that goes away, so does all the vacuum lines, wires, and the hardline to the tank that attaches to it. the vacuum based cruise control stuff is next to the canister, trace out the cable from it to the throttle body. whether or not it stays depends if you want to use cruise. if you're going to get a cruise off the ls motor, you wont need it, the vacuum ball under the front corner of the bumber that it has a line to, or the cable to the tb from there. if you need a fourth gen cruise, let me know, i ended up getting all that together ad then going dbw, so i have an extra tb, and throttle cable, and cruise module. otherwise just trace everything out, and you can get an understanding of what it all is. if theres something you can't identify, trace out what it is wired to or what else attaches to it, and you can figure it out, or just ask here.
