newer motor from '06 into '88vert

I have a motor here supposedly out of an '06 2wd Blazer. It's an all aluminum COP V8. How do I identify exactly what kind of mill this is?

What's it going to take to get this to run in an '88 vert? Motor and driveline are already mounted. '06 fuel injection intake and system has been removed and replaced with an intake for a carb. Can this be set up to run with nothing more than an MSD ignition without swapping in an ECU and harness for the '06 motor?

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

Get casting #'s from the block and heads.

I would never put a carb on one of these engines (except possibly for a strip-only car). That's my personal opinion, and personally, I think it's based on sound reasoning. But, yes, you can make it run with a carb and MSD control box.

Where are the casting #'s located? What kind of number am I looking for (how many digits ect)? I can provide a picture.

This thing is a nightmare. It has been through two different shops a year plus at each without success to get it in a running state. So now it is in my hands to get the job done. It's not my car and I already told the owner I would have left the fuel injection. He had the harness and ECU even. Then he had a custom harness built. Now it is all thrown out and a carb in it's place. It's a mess. The last guy that worked on it took off ALL the labels on the '88 harness. WTF! Not one thing is hooked up right now because no one that has worked on it to this point HAS A CLUE and probably should not be trying to run a shop especially for anything custom. The motor and driveline are in and the exhaust is on, but not too much more. Gas pedal was hacked for the drive by wire pedal needed for the fuel injection and a laundry list of other "things".

First things first though...get things identified so I know exactly what I have and don't have to get this thing on the road again.
