i dont look at price so much as fitment.
i just bought a set of custom longtubes from a guy who fabricated them and its a night and day difference from the hawks.
brake lines, fuel lines, tranny linkage, tranny lines, floorboard clearance, etc.

Any news for anyone? I think I am just going to stick with LS1 shorties and run a big 8" pipe straight out the back of the car. Won't have to worry about it anymore!
Serioulsy though, It's sounding more and more like a set of shorties + Mufflex 4" cat back is going to be the best way to go as far as fitament and flow in a 3rd gen, on the cheap.

i bought a set of stainless, used.
local chassis builders charge 600+ ALL materials. depending on the collectors, and either mild steel or all stainless, you are going to have at least 900 bucks in them before coating.
you can find bends and header kits pretty cheap. jegs has their house brand flanges.
mild steel, built, hot coated and on the car i was looking at 1000-1100 bucks with a standard collector. merge collectors... well, depends on the brand. they can range from a couple hundred to a thousand a set.

Zane, here's a different idea, if you know of some cheap headers that are close to fitting & since you have a an extra motor now (I am jealous) and those parts cars out back. How hard would it be to remove everything flammable & mock up the engine in one? I could show up with a torch & rosebud & we could adjust a little here & there..
If not, what are the cheapest BBC headers & LS flanges? Looking at the picture of the heads you posted I'm betting that could be made to work without too much trouble. & I've got a TIG setup too..

Well, the shortys i found from Patriot that are 1 7/8 would be about 220$ and the DIY 1 3/4 Header kit is about 160 or so, i think that would be pretty stout but i am just worried i cannot get my damn handle in there to get good tacks in place to remove and weld the rest up.

Zone, the page you linked, those are the same headers that Jay used for his Iroc on spray. He says they fit well, I can't remember which part number he used though, they are shorties/mids but look like they are fairly large. If you call them and get any info, post up. They looks like maybe 1 3/4"-2" primaries?

4th gen MAC mids are out
Pics are of one bolt up front. They still lack over and inch from getting the rear bolt in. A tubular K-member wouldnt help either because the a-arm mounts are the issue

I'd like to see a choice of 1.625" primaries for swaps using a mild 5.3 or a pure stock LQ4, then 1.875" primaries for swaps that really are over 450 HP. 1.75" is fine for a cammed LS1, or a cam and heads 5.3, but it's not perfect for everyone. Neither would it be perfect for BBK to release 1.875" headers. They're only worth about 10 HP on a 500 horse combo anyway. And those wanting to do their own version of Squires' rear-turbo deal would be best served by 1.625" primaries, regardless of the HP level, since the turbo is the restriction, and you want maximum exhaust gas velocity to the turbo, at all costs. The bottom line is this: we need a choice of sizes, and we need them uncoated mild steel. If you want and can afford coating, that's best, but the way to ensure the most sales is a choice of sizes, in the cheapest material. And if the O2s aren't clearing the 4L60E, then plug the bungs, drill new holes, weld in new bungs, and position the 02s where they will clear. But for about the same money, you can convert to a used Tremec TR3650.

PA racing and AJE k members do not have stock mounting points unless you specify, you MUST use their a arms.
not saying the macs will fit, but an option.
i had corvette exhaust manfiolds on my car by massaging the tube on the k member on the passenger side.
friend tried to run them with another brand k member and it was a no-go.

over the time this thread has been dead has anyone figured anything out? im running ls1/th350 and would rather not spend $7-800 in lt's if i dont have to? ill prolly just by some shortie headers or somthin but i would hate to do that

I used the Hawks 3rd Gen S.S. Headers for my LSX427 in my 91 Camaro
and they fit like a glove ...its well worth it....little expensive

no go on the TB SS headers.
i was going to get a set of kooks from a buddy. one of them kicked in or out. its been too long to remember.
there was some talk about using 99-06 body full size truck headers.
pacesetter makes a cheaper version, but not sure if there is enough firewall clearance.

I am building a 92 firebird for bracket (drag) racing. Originally I was going BBC, but recently got a great deal on an fresh LS1. I already had Ed Quay BBC headers, so I bought an LS flange set from Jegs. Since the Quay headers are individual tubes that slip fit the collector everything mocks up ok outside the car. Installed will be the litmus. In a similar vein, a local guy used Hooker BBC headers for an El Camino to install a LS motor in his El Camino. He said it was relatively easy.

Yeh I kinda figured that. When it took them a year longer than they said it would and there was never any update on there website. Also the colecter looks like it would be a real pain to work around.

I have a set of shortie headers, that were on an ls1 swap 3rd gen. I got them with a motor I bought. Not sure what they brand they are. They have 1 5/8" primaries. They will probably require a custom y pipe. I'd let them go for 100 shipped. I can send pics if interested.

I used a speedwaymotors.com diy ls headers kit for last build.
This time around, thinking about using bbc diy header tubes (2in.) With ported ls flanges.
Looks like the 1 7/8 is what i will end up with tho.

the 02 ports on my old hawks were useless. they were for sure designed around a 6spd. with an auto, i couldnt get my wideband sensor in either hole. i had one of the first sets of 10 back in 05 i think it was? i cant keep up.

racing Innovation and supply, they sell a longtube 82-92 ls1 lsx swap header for $250. im going to call them tomorrow and ask a few questions, but for the most part they look promising!

I just did a chevell and we took the long tubes it had for sbc cut moved some tubes used a flange from speedway and welded them back up and they look and function perfect and alot cheaper then a set of swap headers ill try to get some pics

One of the primary tubes on the passanger side header touches/rubs my uni-body frame rail. ( PASSANGER SIDE! shown below )

I used Hawks Conversion Motor mounts maybe thats why it rubs the uni-body and also the gaskets they send with the headers are very thick. If you try a thinner header gasket it might not rub!! other then that for the most part they fit the car. Havnt fired my motor yet so im not sure if this will cause any rattles or noises. Cant complain too much for only $250
Driver side header has to go in from the bottem of the car and the passenger side header will slip in from the top with the starter removed.
