Beating a dead horse - LQ4 exhaust manifolds

Situation: Have LQ4 that came from a 2003 G3500 van. It's going into the '57 and will get shoebox swap headers.

Also have LS1/4L60E from a 2000 Camaro that will go into Berlinetta #1, didn't come with exhaust manifolds (had headers, and 4th gen headers don't fit in 3rd gens - besides, the seller had already sold the headers).

I know the truck LQ4 exhaust manifolds don't fit in 3rd gen swaps, but how about van LQ4 manifolds? The frame rails are narrower (or at least, had been in the past) on vans than they are on trucks. These manifolds looked pretty tucked in to me, but I don't have 4th gen LS1 manifolds to compare them to.

I could pull the headers out fo Berlinetta #2 and see if the manifolds would fit, but hey, that's a lot of work.

I used to have LS1 exhaust manifolds, took pics before I let them go:

If anyone has truck LQ4 manifolds they could compare to these, let me know if I'm totally off-base.

Well, can't blame a guy for trying.

Guess they don't tuck in like the f-body manifolds do.

My racecar is based on that way of thinking

Ill post pics of how they fit in a week or so to compliment the LS1tech manifold measurement thread

If Archimedes can move the world with a long enough lever, perhaps I can use truck exhaust manifolds in a 3rd gen if I have a big enough hammer. . .

I know, headers would be better. Keep hearing horror stories when using a 4L60E.

A big hammer never hurt anyone

The pass headers sweeps pretty far back, may have to love on the fire wall quite a bit as well

Re: Beating a dead horse - LQ4 exhaust manifolds

I'm really curious to see what a set of LS4 (fwd) manifolds look like in these cars. Budget means no headers for me and I'm going with an auto (also means no headers). a BFH makes almost anything possible, but I'm trying to stay away from that route too...

But when compared to the headers that I know do fit. . .

Re: Beating a dead horse - LQ4 exhaust manifolds

curiousity killed the cat, but has anyone around here tried the manifolds off of a G8? They look pretty compact according to the shot of em I found on LS1tech:

Just a guess, but the distance from the head mounting surface to the outside edge of the flange on the passenger side is pretty wide. Doubt it would clear the frame rail.

I haven't seen this manifold measurements thread Pocket mentioned.

Re: Beating a dead horse - LQ4 exhaust manifolds

If you flip them, for a front exit, that gives you a good excuse to add a turbocharger. If you had a passenger side exhaust manifold from a '00 Z28 SS, that fits very well on the passenger side of my '84 Trans am LQ4. Too bad for you that you sold and shipped that item to me. :-) So, the question now, in my mind, is could we fit an Edelbrock shorty header in there on that side, in these older cars? And since these manifolds are the shizzle for LSx Fieros, would the edelbrock shorties fit there? Frustrating, ain't it?

Re: Beating a dead horse - LQ4 exhaust manifolds

BTW, IF you're very sure that the van driver-side manifold tucks closer than the pickup truck version, I could sure give it a new home. Enough to trade you the above-mentioned SS passenger side piece for it.
