Looking to start doing all the 4th gen mods
i've been browsing all the treads for the last few days now, and feel that i'd like to get started on doing a good part of the mods in a week or so. i wanted to do the seats and the dash swap first. but as i read on a few qustions popped up. 1 being do i need to do the ls1 swap before i do the dash? i'm looking to do it either way, but at the momment money is the issue doing the ls1 swap. your answers would be greatly appreciated. and if anyone is selling or knows of some one selling an ls1 and t56, preffer from the same car but not required, let me know.

The engine function does not require a new dash. Your stock one will run fine with it. Order is unimportant
Being an older car with a carb, it will not have all the proper fuses and relays for a full integration into your original circuit. In short, you need a full stand alone engine control system to run the engine. You can do either one first, do a search on dash swap and youll find several good threads on how to pull it off
One bit extra, if you do both at the same time, you can integrate most of the stock 4th gen LS1 engine harness into the 4th gen dash harness to skip quite a few issues
Do not confuse any of this as 'easy' as both changes will be MAJOR undertakings, either separate or together

Draon, when you report out here to Hawaii, just leave that Texas weather behind!
Good luck on your swap! I wanna do that to my '89 GTA someday when I have time and money. I never seem to have both at the same time...

Re: Looking to start doing all the 4th gen mods
You would be VERY suited to buying a donor car. Since you need to do a lot of work at the same time. You will find that you need lots of little bits and pieces, and many of them can be used off of the 4th gen. Also, YOU'll be taking it apart, so YOU will know how it all goes back together...big time help to me when I did my car.
Sounds liek you already started buying parts though, so thats probably out of the question for you at this point.
Good luck!
J.

Re: Looking to start doing all the 4th gen mods
ahh, know what thats like. just got back from the junk yard. got a complete 4th gen seat set. luckley they fit all into an oldsmobile alero. gonna go and pick up the whole dash assembly, carpet, and headliner wed maybe, depending on the weather. if you want to come by and give me a hand, and see what to do if you decide to do the swap, your more then welcome to. i'm more of a hands on learner myself, can read and read all i want, but i'll learn more by doing it.

Re: Looking to start doing all the 4th gen mods
It can be a pain reaching me through TGO - I'll PM you my number...
As of right now I don't have anything going on Wednesday & I'd be happy to help you out, I'm kinda curious to see how easy/hard the swap is! Right now the plan for my Z is going to be an original restoration (or very close to it anyway) she has just under 50k miles and is just as solid as when it left the line 18 years ago! I just can't bring myself to messing with that...
Do you have a good set of tools for the interior swap? I can bring my trunk box if needed... Also do you have a garage to work in - sounds like it might be cold - if not and it's drivable we can use mine, it's not heated but it is out of the wind and there are always cold beer in the fridge!
