NUMBER one priority is to send pocket the money for my harness. then get my starter, then my headers, plugs spark plug wires, and run my fuel system and cooling lines for the tranny

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )
ok here is the deal. I took the windsheild out right,... very very messy job. but i got it done so i had this gut feeling that the motor had glass in it from that and of course took driverside head off and there is glass i do not no how it got there but it was there. so i am gonna tear my motor back apart lol and re due her all over again.

Just got done reading through your entire thread. Stick with it man and eventually you will be glad you did. Set a rule that anything can be sold except the car and when you get sick of it just step away for a couple months. Eventually the bug will always bite again. I'm local to you and was considering doing a 6.0L/T56 to my '89 Formula also. Have had my car put up in storage for 5 years now and haven't lost hope. Hows that for life getting in the way? I've known TTOP for awile now, great guy and knows his third gen's backwards and forwards.

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )
How did you get glass in the engine? (this is a two part question):
1- was the intake not on the motor?
2- What did you use to remove the windshield that caused any glass to come apart anyways?
I've taken a few windshields out of 3rd gens using the wire that's made for it, comes on a spool. Takes two people and two c-clamps. Tighten the clamps down on each end of the wire, start at one corner, and go back and forth side to side with it until you cut through all the glue. There's no reason to make a mess when removing these things lol

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )
i do not remember if the intake was on or not. but after i did it i turned the motor over a couple times and heard something that i did not like then the thought that maybe glass got down there accured then i was like crap. and i did it the messy way and used a chissle lol and tried prying it out but then it just started falling apart so it came out in peices. yea i no stupid but you no what whatever man do it your way and ill do it mine lol

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )
I have to say, a chisel is one of the more ammusing ways of removing a windshield.
I'm wondering how the glass got in the engine if the intake was on it though. Valve covers maybe weren't on? Oil fill cap not on, or something?

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )
nope all that was on,... here is my theory. glass landing in the intake port. then when i turned it over with a wrench it fell in so, yea but what do you guys think of these header working for swap headers i think they look familiar there is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-F...item2567628849

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )
ALOT of people use the 6.0 truck manifolds for turbo setups, i guess they flow pretty well?
Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )
Turbo exhaust systems are a completely different animal than NA and SC systems. Manifolds dont really have to flow very well to be effective for a turbo

But you don't need dyno numbers to tell you the truck manifolds are good stuff, you can tell that just by looking at them. I'm keeping my set on the bench in the corner of the garage waiting for the end of days when I finally win the lottery...

What accessory drive are you using? If truck stuff, use a truck pulley. If fbody stuff, can't use the truck pulley.

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )
It must be tuned out for a swap as listed in the swap sticky. No way to fool it with simple wiring tricks
You need to match the PCM to your harness. Yours takes a 99-03 service numbers 0411 or 4896

I bought my computer off ebay from a dealer who tunes them to your specs first. I got him to remove all the necessary codes and VATS, changed the rev limit and speed limit options etc... I believe the eBay store was called "Spare ECM"

That paint job will make you go crazy if you have to track down a coolant/oil leak later down the road haha

Re: 90 firebird formula merges with LQ4 ( questions!!! )
I could never live with that intake paint scheme, but if you like it, then it's all good! It's nice to see some progress being made. I have a question though. I'm sure if I paid more attention in the first 11 pages I'd have the answer, but what motor is this now? Is this the 6.0 with the crank I sold you, or was that replaced with something else along the line?
