GTO swap
I have the chance to buy an 06 GTO that has been T boned on the passenger side. I was wondering if $3500 is too much to pay for the car. It has 53,000 miles (a little hgih for the year) 6.0 liter with a T56 trans and leather interior. The rims and tires are good but the outside color is that hideous blue and the passenger side is completely F'ed. I was thinking of keeping the seats, engine, trans, rear end, ECU, wiring harness, fuel tank, and wheels. What do you LSX guys think, is it worth it to buy it?
It belonged to an older gentleman that I work with but his son borrowed the car and got it sideways, fought with a tree, and lost. The car is stock except for the K&N air filter and it has a tune from one of those handheld tuners. More or less, it is stock, is it worth the $3500 though, or should I pass on this one?

Re: GTO swap
Imo, I think it would be a great buy. The engine and trans combo itself is probably worth $3500 if not more, then you can sell the wheels and all the interior for a great profit too.

Re: GTO swap
yeah, that is what I was kind of thinking, but the interior on the passenger side is way past repairable. I'm thinking maybe swap the seats in my formy, eventually the engine and trans also. I'm wondering if I should try to swap the rear or keep my 9 bolt. Any opinions?

Re: GTO swap
I think it is a great buy. The fuel tank will be useless in an F-Body, but the engine and transmission are more than worth the price. The seats can be made to work in an F-Body, but in my opinion they don't look good with the "GTO" embroidery on them. Recovered without that, I think they could look great. Owning a 2005 GTO myself with the 6.0L engine I can say that those seats are VERY comfortable and superior to anything ever put in an F-Body. The ECU and wiring harness would be necessary for the swap. I don't know if the wheels will fit on an F-Body or not, but wheels are almost always worth the price if they are in good shape. The tires themselves may be of some value as well depending on tread depth. As for the rear end of the GTO, it is an IRS setup and I'm not sure if you'd even want that in a third gen. I'd probably sell it if I were you.
Re: GTO swap
Youd be hardpressed to find just the LS2 with that mileage for that price. It needs a Fbody pan and its ready to drop in
Go for it, youll likely be able to part out the shell for a good bit back in your pocket. I know the cluster and dash harness are favorites for old school guys going modern

Re: GTO swap
I got the gas tank, fuel lines, LS1, T56, radiator, fans, clutch hydros, seats, wiring, driveshaft, gauge cluster, and PCM from a 99 Z28 for $2300.
I got lucky I know but for what you are getting for $3500 is also a deal I would not have passed on and you also have parts you can easly sell off where I just took what I needed from the car.
I say go for it.

The early LS years weren't their best effort, obviously. They made a lot of reliability improvements in the first 5 years, which makes the later engines worth more (and they tend to have fewer miles on them).
The '06 LS2 is DBW, right? You'll need the accelerator pedal out of the GTO as well.

Re: GTO swap
It is DBW, I forgot about the gas pedal, good catch. I wish I could figure out a way to swap the steering wheel also.

I'm with everyone else on here. good price, go for it! and whatever you don't need, sell it off to recoup some money. I'm finding out the hard way that these Australian Pontiacs are not the easiest to source parts for (someone decided my driver side mirror looked too nice on my G8 and took care of that problem for me), so the little trim pieces and what not can add up to some good cash for you

Re: GTO swap
Car is getting picked up this afternoon, and I will start ripping her apart!
Thanks for the input, I'll see what I can sell off of her to try and break even, it would be nice for the swap to come out "free" after selling off as much of the goat as I can.
