starter shimming?

starter shimming?
Has anyone else had to shim their LT1 starter after doing the swap? I went to the 700r trans so it now has the flywheel from the original 305 that was in the car. The starter seems to be binding making it turn over too slow to start. I went to the parts store only to be told they dont carry starter shims anymore. They suggested washers but that seems like a bad idea. I was curious if anyone else had to shim theirs with the same swap. I am really close to getting this thing running and the little bumps like this keep killing me!

Re: starter shimming?
Find a new parts store. Shims are very common and will always be available for the old school guys. You shouldnt have a problem with the LT1 though, are you using the LT1 starter or the 305 starter?

I got shims today and got the same result. I took the starter in and turned out it was bad. 187$ later I still got a non running engine but it cranks nice!
