How to put an early style GM trans behind your LS motor

I know this has been discussed here a few times. Putting an auto behind it is straightforward, flexplate/crank spacer and done, usually even the bolt holes on the converter and very close (old style is 11.75" new is 11.80"). Therefore, I was digging through some of my old mags, found an old CC article on how to do just this, and figured I would share. BTW, the GM crank/flexplate spacer is superior to the others.

I used the gm flywheel and spacer its definitely the way to go way cheaper than TCI stuff. The only thing I did was elongate the converter holes to line up with my PTC converter.

Re: How to put an early style GM trans behind your LS motor

I am entertaining the idea of my spare T-5 in one behind an LS in the 67 street car I am building. Everyone is down on the T-5, but if you talk to anyone who has owned a WC one, they are not nearly as easy to kill as people think. Mine lived behind my car that trapped @ 120mph for 2 years before I broke it. The tilted trans could be a pain because the bellhousing will not clear a 168t flywheel, still have to figure this solution out. I wish i could adapt a Tremec 3650 out of an 01 and newer mustang, those are pretty tough and can be had fairly cheap! But they are a 1pc bellhousing/trans deal.
