Good news...might be getting some 06 lq9 pistons and rods to stick in my current short block. Light hone with new bearings/rod bolts and rings and it should be good to go!!

Now that i'm on break from college for a while, I found time to take the engine bay down and painted it. Also took advantage of more holiday sales! Bad part is i forgot my camera at school....

Hey Pocket, is this the power and ground for the HVAC/blower motor? It's on the motor side of the harness.

Did you end up making the bracket for the clutch master?
I've got my LS1 swap on the road, and as expected, the Tilton 7/8" master and quick disconnect line from speedway make for a great shifting setup. I'm using the Monster Stage II clutch, so far, so good. It grips way better than any Mcleod clutch I was using behing my old school SBC/T56.

Re: N2O Assisted LSX T-56 Into an '89 IROC!
Finally have had the time and motivation to get more done on the IROC. Started by taking the engine bay down to just the brake booster, then sanding, priming, and painting the whole thing. Turned out really nice and am glad i took the time to do it!
Started putting a few things back together, got the harness all in and awaiting on the motor, mounted the power distribution block (btw, do i need to run a wire from the + bat terminal to it?) and found some nice U clamps to hold the harness in place.
I also undercoated the battery tray to prevent any rust from popping up on me.

Here's how i did the throttle cable, it's amazing what sheets of aluminum can do lol
Cleaned up, sandblasted and primed/painted the valve covers and the front engine cover. I also put a new seal in the front cover just in case.
How have you guys been sealing up the hole on the valve cover? I just put an electical box plug in it, but i doubt even with RTV'ing it it will last.

Re: N2O Assisted LSX T-56 Into an '89 IROC!
Also got around to starting the fuel system.
Made a nice stainless bracket instead of reusing the stock bracket which seemed really flimsy, and mounted the filter/reg kind of funny. I do have one problem with the reg, the outlet fitting seems to be really loose, like the fitting is a few thousanths smaller than what it should be to seal against the oring in the reg. Has anyone else had that issue?
ALso acquired a McLeod clutch master. I think i've found the correct rod end with a 7/16 opening, i just have to confirm the threads are the same. If not, I'll have my cousin machine up a piece like a rod end except with a 7/16" hole instead of the 3/8".
That's as far as i am now...just made a list of things to buy and to do yet....looks like it's going to take even more $$$$ just to get the damn thing running than i thought!!

Almost forgot, If i do need to run a hot wire from the bat to the distribution block, can i just use one of these short wires?

Re: N2O Assisted LSX T-56 Into an '89 IROC!
Now i got a few choices i need to make:
1) Do i spend ~ $300 and put 4.10s in the 10 bolt, or spend 2k on a 9" and disc brakes?? I'm thinking that with my street tires, the 10 bolt will last as long as i don['t put drag radials on it. I might get a PST driveshaft anyways tho, don't want a broken shaft ruining everything under the car.
2) Should i leave my brake lines alone? Or should i stick in my line lock and wilwood prop valve? In the near future i plan on doing the front a arms, struts, and getting some big *** brakes, so i might leave everything till the.
3) I've tried and tried but i can't get the tierod adjusters off the tierods...they're pretty rusty. Should i get new steering parts up front as well? I think that would cost around 250 from spohn....

I feel your pain man! I've been having a hard time getting questions answered here lately too for my swap. I can't answer your filter/reg or the valve cover questions since I went a different route, but I can give a little input on a few of the other items you were talking about in post 114
1) I think it was Five7kid on another thread that said he spent money on his 10 bolt only to mess it up after a few passes down the strip. If it were me, I wouldn't spend a dime on it. Especially with your combo. I would save the money for later to upgrade WHEN it breaks. I don't think it's a question of IF it will break. Maybe it would be okay if you were dropping in a fairly stock engine, but yours looks to be a fairly stout combo. I would definitely invest in a good driveshaft though. Denny's makes some nice ones that are made for nitrous applications.
2) As far as the brakes go, I'd probably just do it all at one time when you put the big brake kit on there.
3) and the suspension, I'd probably replace that stuff too if it's questionable
Just my $0.02

It's most likely what i'll end up doing. The only thing is that 3.08 gears are really low for the motor/cam that i have, and was thinking if i leave street tires on it that it would last a while?? I have the TA for a track car.
I was thinking of getting a PST shaft that is .5" longer than the 10 bolt one, so that when and if i get a 9" it will work for that as well. I have a 4" 32 spline yolk, so i have room for adjustment.
2) As far as the brakes go, I'd probably just do it all at one time when you put the big brake kit on there.
That's what i'm going to do. Just leave it as is and get some new rubber lines for the hardlines to the calipers. Most liekly will do brakes if i get the 9" with discs since i'd need a different prop valve anyway.
3) and the suspension, I'd probably replace that stuff too if it's questionable
I'm going to get tie rods ect. from the kit through spohn. then it's done and i don't have to worry about steering issues lol

Good deal. I was just out in the garage taking out my stock MC and clutch pedal. Replacing the MC with the tick MC. It's a tight fit.

Re: N2O Assisted LSX T-56 Into an '89 IROC!
Shortblock is in the machine shop, PCM is being dropped off Tuesday for a start up tune, getting Geoff from EPS specing me a cam, bought a Jimmy Jams gauge panel, got everything lined up to drop the car on the motor, and I need to get going on the exhaust...those headers are crazy spendy though! Other than that, ordered a TON of little junk that really adds up, gauges, catch can, -12 hose/fittings, msc electrical items, and slowly getting all the fluids from Napa whenever craps on sale.
It's getting started before May 5th or else....sucks when you can only work on it weekend nights!

Thanks man! Going to pull the tank tonight and undercoat everything above that, then install the pump and finish those lines tonight as well. I grabbed my camera so i'll have updated pics!
Also saved a few bucks and got all new steering parts from Mevotech on rock auto, damn good quality IMO

Made a little progress this weekend after work both days, go the tank out, installed the pump, cleaned and painted/undercoated a bit more, and reinstalled the tank.

Re: N2O Assisted LSX T-56 Into an '89 IROC!
In other news, got a speedo and gas gauge for the price of the speedo alone...made me happy lol. Now all I need to do is get a fuel pressure and volt gauge, then my panel is done except for wiring it. Picked up a filler panel without the filter holes in it last night, and bringing the PCM for the start up tune to the tuner in the AM. Hopefully Geoff gets the cam sorted out here soon as well.
Do any of you know what is the intake and which is the return on the corvette fuel filter/reg combo? I assume the larger of the two ports is the intake, and the smaller is the return...
Edit: turns out my assumption was correct.
This weekend i'll finish the fuel linesDONE , get the rear end back inDONE , clean up/prep the filler panelDONE , tap into the harness for the TPS and tach signals for the nitrous controller and the new gauge panel, wire in the gauge panel and other msc electronics, mount the PCM and run the obd connector, change out valve springs, install the temp sender and pcm water temp senderDONE , get the -12 breather in the valve cover, make the throttle cable bracket, mount the breather tank, work, eat, and MAYBE sleep lol

Got some work done on the camaro this weekend, I know it's not much but I worked on it from 9pm-1am lol. Hope everyone had a Happy Easter!
Finished up the fuel system. Looking back on it, wish I would have done an external pump and a regulator up at the rails, but this should be enough for around 550rwhp.
Pic of the blowdown for the n2o
Rearend back in for good... or until it explodes...

Got the gauge panel all wired up, voltmeter should be here soon.
Filler panel sprayed with trim black (it's still drying in this pic)
Also made the guard to protect the air cleaner in front of the wheel well
...and taped my Fast TB for the plug

...and taped my Fast TB for the plug

Re: N2O Assisted LSX T-56 Into an '89 IROC!
Started on making the throttle cable bracket, was doing this pretty late at night but i think it turned out decent. I had to reduce the height of it, and still need to have my buddy tig it up and brace it when I finalize the location for it
And the torque arm, I need to figure out a way to mount it yet to the double hump X member
Other than that, I redid the pillar wiring, and have a thousand questions on wireing the panel in. Need to find a TPS, tach, left and right turn signal, and high beams.

I'll have to do something like that. I'm pretty decent at fab work and we have plenty of steel laying around! I think mine will be mounted a bit further since I have a full length arm. I'll have to make it adjustable too
Just got my headers ordered as well...they better be worth it!

Re: N2O Assisted LSX T-56 Into an '89 IROC!
Got a question for some of you guys: If i keep the street tires on the rear (pretty cheap Falcon? tires), do you think the rear would last a year or two? I'm sure it would just spin before i'd break anything. Or maybe it would be better if it broke so i could put higher gears in it...IDK how these 3.08s are going to work but there's not money in my budget for a rear end at this time

Re: N2O Assisted LSX T-56 Into an '89 IROC!
Small update/personal plan for the weekend:
Headers should be here by the weekend, Cam should be here as well...should make fantastic mid-high end power! If only that dang shortblock was done!!!!!!
For this weekend: Change tach to 4cly input, wire in the cluster/install, wire in pillar pod, tap into pcm harness for the TPS voltage, mount PCM, and do anything else that doesn't involve the shortblock. Might look into getting a new started just so I don't have it haunting me lol

Re: N2O Assisted LSX T-56 Into an '89 IROC!
Yep meant to say starter lol. So i got the cluster in just to find out i had it backwards...out it came and now it fits perfect!! Also tapped into Red 24 pin for the TPS voltage per HSW's instructions. Ran the aldl cable and mounted that up, ran the speedo signal wire to the drivers side, and a bunch of other tedious wiring stuff that had to get done! Now i'm waiting on my weatherpack connectors. They're so much better than using female/male spades!

Re: N2O Assisted LSX T-56 Into an '89 IROC!
Made a ton of progress the past few weeks, but i'm slacking on uploading the pictures! Longblock is done, just waiting on the pushrods to get here! Got the trans and bellhousing on it tonight after work, and got the K member onto the motor. I'll have to upload the pictures tomorrow for you guys.
Tomorrow before work i'm getting the -12 bung welded into the valve covers, and welding my custom throttle cable bracket there as well. After work I plan on grinding the inside of the covers to fit the rockers, finish up wiring the fuel pressure gauge, and make the stand to hold the motor/K/trans so i can drop the car onto them. Probably going to make it so the whole assembly can slide, so i can raise the car with the cherry picker and push the motor and trans under the car with the skidsteer. I really don't have that much left!!!!!
The biggest issue i have is the torque arm, have the double hump X member, ture duals, and a long arm. IDK if i should sell the arm and buy a track pack and then put the duals "X" in the dip, get the jegster arrm and take all the interior out (PITA), or fab up a mount off of the trans X member.

Rear Crossover. You can also see the fitting i have to prime the oil system. Ended up tapping the fitting by the oil filter for the pressure sender

Re: N2O Assisted LSX T-56 Into an '89 IROC!
I need to get the alt bracket off of my TA, then mount that on the block. Also need to drill and tap the block once i know where exactly to start drilling. I have CBR Performances bracket to get the alt up onto the passenger side for the TA for the turbo......Also need to get a new solenoid for the starter, and a new alternator.
Need to get my -12 bung tigged on and tig the custom throttle cable bracket that i have made.
Needless to say i'm getting really close, but still have lots to do yet and not a lot of time to do it!!
Let me know what you think, I could use some feedback to keep me goin on it haha
