I got it running last week, just reused the plugs that were in it, those Fuson things. It ran fine for the first several passes, then started dropping off in eliminations.
Had it in the shop for completion of the exhaust during the week, picked it up Friday afternoon, when I started it up to head for the track it was only running on 7. Checked all connections, everything okay. Got on it and it cleaned up. Made my first time trial pass, it started cutting out in 2nd gear, then was mostly 7 cylinders through 3rd gear. Got back to the pits, pulled the plugs (managed to burn myself on the headers a couple of times), borrowed my son's truck and ran to the parts store and picked up a set of NGK Platinum's. Gapped, installed, no more problem.
It wasn't clear which plug wasn't firing, but it clearly was better with the simple NGK single ground plugs.

They wanted to sell me $7/each AC Iridiums, saying "These are stock - I think."
What did they put in from the factory?

AC/Delco Platinums are what came in from the factory, TR55 NGKs are pretty much the best plug out there. If you can get the TR55s, you can use a TR5 which just isn't pre-gapped to .050 which is what the second 5 is, heat range 5 and gapped at .050 are what the last two digits stand for.
