Tee it into a coolant line somewhere. Its supposed to be the highest point in the system, but several have gotten by putting it anywhere

Re: 91 RS LT1/T56 swap

Today I messed around with the motor alittle more. I realized that the steel threaded plugs in the back of the cylinder head will not come out. So I'm just going to take pockets advice and "T" it into another coolant line. I was thinking maybe the line coming off the heater core to the waterpump. Unless there is a better way.

On another note I took out the #3 fitting on the waterpump to the oil cooler, and I'm blocking it off with a 1\2" freeze plug. So after the pilot bushing and mounts this motor should be ready to drop in!!!! Starting to get excited!!!

Re: 91 RS LT1/T56 swap

Blocking it off was easy, just got a threaded plug from the hardware store and some locktite. But the only reason I had to block it off was because I switched up the heads after I put my headgasket on, so the threads were in the front. And yeah those plugs are in there pretty good.

Re: 91 RS LT1/T56 swap

well I've been doing some reading and I think I might have messed up on the bypass. I have plugs in all 4 corners of the heads, and was going to run the bypass it at the throttle body, but I guess that causes hot spots in the heads, which they say is a problem with 4th gen heads. But I've heard of a couple people who have blocked it off completely and had no problems, but I don't know if its worth the risk.

Any suggestions, or anyone ever ran this set up?

Re: 91 RS LT1/T56 swap

Today I just painted my SBC mounts and mounted the clam shell to my LT1. One question, where you put the clam shell on the pass. Side of the motor there was a random bracket. Should it be relocated or just forgot about. I have a pic

Other than that progress has been slow. Snow makes money slow, but hopefully ordering poly mounts soon and a pilot bushing so I can fit the motor in her new home

Re: 91 RS LT1/T56 swap

I took a propane torch and heated up the area around the bolt. I just heated it for a minute and it broke free right away. And yeah I do construction and we work around the snow, so it puts a slow on hours, lol.

I just ordered my poly mounts today too!

I'm really stoked, it fell right into place. I don't have the trans yet, and probably won't for a few
Months so I installed the pilot bushing and dropped it in. That way I can start on fuel lines and powersteering, etc etc.

Question: can I reuse the flywheel out of an automatic in a 6 speed?

Auto does not use a flywheel, they use a flexplate. You will need to find a flywheel.

Re: 91 RS LT1/T56 swap

Today I got a few things done after work, got the rear end out, so the fuel tank comes next. Then removing the fuel lines( since the fitting was seized, I cut the line) so I'm going to replace them with napa steel lines connected to pure choice braided lines.

Here's a pic of the rear end finally all disconnected

Re: 91 RS LT1/T56 swap

Also today I bolted in the power steering pump, and started with the lines. I was alittle nervous because I didn't want to kink the line, but I forgot that I bought the pump/lines/reservoir from a guy who was parting out an LT1 swapped third gen trans am. So the line from the pump seems to be a perfect fit. But as for the reservoir, I'm not sure where I'm going to mount it. I'd like to mount it on the motor if possible but I don't mind mounting it elsewhere, if need be.

Here's a pic of the line from the pump, it seems alittle long, but should work fine. Let me know what you think.

None what so ever. Just make sure you don't mix them up when you put them in, I've heard of people doing that. And I used my 305 clamshells on the LTx also. Can't wait to see your motor dropped in and good luck!

Re: 91 RS LT1/T56 swap

Today was a stressful day, got the fuel tank out (PITA!!) And removed the sender and installed my walbro fuel pump. When removing the sender a few pieces of dirt fell off the sender lines so ill have to clean the tank with some kind of solvent. But with the new pump, they sent a plug and play type harness that plugs in my old fuel pump. But there's a lot of loose wires, should I cut and solder the wires, or is that ok?

Also, I realized I don't have a parking brake actuator on my rear end. Do i have to install a whole new ebrake system or just get a new actuator?

Re: 91 RS LT1/T56 swap

Today I reinstalled the fuel tank, and removed the old steel lines. Replacing them and getting braided lines from Purechoice from the intake to the back of the firewall, to the steel lines.

I also installed my other power steering line which required no modification. Just need to decide where to mount my reservoir.

But I still can't figure out my ebrake. Do I just install an actuator, or am I missing a lot? Anyone else have this problem?

Very nice work! I am starting my lt1 swap into a 91 z28 and I'm curious, what are you doing about ur wiring harness? Are you ordering from painless or having someone retrofit its?

Congrats on the swap, way to keep the LTx family alive! As for my harness, im saving myself the massive headache and sending my harnesses to Pocket to have them mated. and i would recommend reading ALL of the stickies and collect as many parts as you can before you begin. you dont want to be like me and being held up by it.

Actually I cleaned and painted it last winter, Shows how fast it can get dirty. Plus sand blasting it was a PITA! So I just threw it in there as is.

Re: 91 RS LT1/T56 swap

I'm right there with you on that. Having just prepped and painted the rearend for my car, I wouldn't want to have to do it twice either. It barely gets seen anyways. Your swap looks like it's coming along nicely. And I like your 4th gen seats. They look really nice!

Thanks man, I was really excited to snag those seats. And funny thing is I didn't even plan on getting them, I stumbled across them on my way OUT of the pick-and-pull. Your swaps coming along very good aswell.

Blue_thunder- you can find him under practically every swap. Just shoot him a pm and let him know what your working with as far as emissions, trans, and anything you deleted. He'll give you an accurate estimate.

Re: 91 RS LT1/T56 swap

I've been doing research, and I still can't find a good thread about a 4th gen parking brake switch. Is that all I'm missing or am I missing ebrake pads? Any one else have a solution?

Thanks!

Re: 91 RS LT1/T56 swap

Today I finish tightening down my sway bar and my UMI panhard bar, and got the rear end on the ground. It kind of feels like a check point has been reached, ha.
Anyway I'm ordering fuel lines from Pure Choice tomorrow, and I'm turning 21 on Saturday so maybe ill be looking at some birthday money for more parts!

Here's a pic of the adj. panhard bar, looks right at home with the Hotchkis sway bar.

Re: 91 RS LT1/T56 swap

What do you guys think about these headers? Their Hooker Competition Shorties, 1 5\8 primarys, but it says oval ports, not D ports. If that makes a diffrence.

Re: 91 RS LT1/T56 swap

Yeah I want to go long tube, but I don't want to get a custom y-pipe fabricated since all the exhaust shops want to dollar for custom pieces. And ground clearance I've heard is an issue with cheap long tubes. But I haven't decided yet, open to opinions!

But I should get my Purechoice braided lines in the mail today, so more pics and updates on that hopefully tomorrow
