Motor mount question
I did some searching and have come up empty handed. Has anyone used motor plates and then run stock SBC mounts?

Re: Motor mount question
Good links pocket, thanks!
Does anyone have any input on the second links comments regarding plate thickness?
"Just BEWARE of adapter plates made out of 3/8" material, we tried these when we first started making these for our twin turbo applications and the holes wouldn't line up. I don't care how much CAD and CAM you use, The bottom hole in the bracket are located off the bottom hole in the LS1 block. Add a 1/16 of an inch to each plate and the holes don't line up with your motor mounts, let alone it moves your motor up 1/2 of an inch creating transmission tunnel issues."

I bought and used these on my LS1/4L60E project: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWAX:IT
I tend to agree with the 1/16" statement, although I don't know about the 1/2" higher part. For the LQ4/4L80E project in the '57, I intend to use the thinner plates you linked.
I'd rather notch the K-member and have some firewall clearance than use the 1" setback pieces.

Re: Motor mount question
The common Spohn pieces are actually 1" setbacks. It's not so bad really. I cant get a socket over the rear ground bolts, but I can still get them out without much fuss

I agree, I have a set of plates but I used the spohn mounts instead. the 1" back space is where you want it to sit

Re: Motor mount question
I used the standard straight up plates, they bolt on perfect, but i had to slot my clam shell holes about 1.4 inch maybe to the inside on each one to get it to bolt up to Moroso solid mounts, then it was all go from there. Otherwise, i might have rather went with the 1 inch set backs, but i think my trans was hard enough to get to some of the bolts, so i am not 100% if i would have done that.

Re: Motor mount question
using plates now myself and should have gone with the 1" back; they would set you exactly where the spohn mounts do

Re: Motor mount question
I'm confused here...even after searching.
Will the 1" setback plates that Pocket linked to that re-use the stock 3rdgen motormounts (both engine side and x.member side) position the transmission in the same place (as with the small block)?
Also, will the use of these 1" setback plates allow enough room for the F-body AC compressor with notched x.member?

1. yes. just installed mine a couple days ago. reuses all the old motor mount components. I used factory lower mounts with energy suspension poly inserts. the upper mount sections came right off the stock 305 the car came with
2. can't be sure, but i think this mount design gets in the way of compressor; will take a look at my setup tonight if it ever decides to stop raining.

Re: Motor mount question
well, the rain didn't let up (don't mind the tarp and cover), but I hope this helps

from what I can see, there does not look to be room enough for the LSx compressor

Re: Motor mount question
Thanks a ton! Good pic.
I think you're right, looks like no room for the compressor as you have to notch the K-member right at the mount.
