Starting off point for LSX transplant

This is the beginning point of my upcoming LSX/T56 transplant. It's an 82 that originally came with the 4 cylinder. I replaced that with a 350 SBC in 92 and drove it that way till I blew it. I hope to begin soon and be posting progression pics. I provide 24 hr care for my son who was hit be a teenage driver and has been in a coma for the last 3.5 years, so it will be a slow build. If anyone has any comments, I welcome them.

Best of wishes for your son.

Maybe you can motivate me to switch to a LS1

I have enjoyed running the 350, but the potential for the LSX series really gets my attention, not to mention the all aluminum aspect of it.
I am looking forward to the build. My middle son and I have already pulled the front end and are ready to pull the motor and trans.

Id recommend doing the removal/install of the drivetrain from below. You dont know how much easier it is VS the traditional out the top method

i also agree . the factory installed them from the bottom . 2 yrs. ago my 89 got "T" boned in the rt. rear , tore the rear completely off from the front of the car . i removed "K" member & tranny member with eng. & tranny all together from below . i did it by myself ( i'm now 71 ) , had offers of help but i refused . wanted to prove something i suppose . anyway it was very easy . BTW my old eng. now pushes a 51 phord P/U , T-5 in a 85 monte behind a zz4 . good luck .

Re: Starting off point for LSX transplant

I will probably take the advice. I have always used the traditional method (top), but I am going with a tubular K-member, so it will make it much easier.

Oh man sorry to hear about your son, that's terrible. How old is he?

What LSx engine do you plan on going with?

Re: Starting off point for LSX transplant

Damn, i didnt have any issues with from the top installation, if i had a lift i might drop one out the other way, but hell with that.(4th gen is different since the cowl covers half the motor)

Re: Starting off point for LSX transplant

I appreciate the thoughts and questions about my son. We have a website that tells his story and gives updates on his recovery if anyone is interested. http://www.pray4hayden.com
If you will sign the guestbook, it places you on a list that receives updates through email each time an update is posted.
I am more or less doing this build as a tribute to him, as he was tremendously interested in building cars with me.
