1. Make sure you have sufficient oil pan to cross member clearance.
2. Replace motor mounts with polyurethane mounts while the engine is out.
3. If you run hawks long tubes, make sure you get them wrapped or coated because they dissipate a lot of heat into the interior.
4. If possible have your harness extended so that you can mount the ECM in the stock location.
5. It’s easier to lift the car’s body and drop the entire cross member with engine and trans, etc.
6. Use everything salvageable from the 4th gen, fuel tank, fuel lines, radiator, fans, etc.
7. Post a thread on LS1tech parting out the unused parts to recoup some $$$.
Oh and post some pics.

+1 on taking the motor out of the bottom and offsetting the cost by selling whatever you don't use
Also plan for extra time and extra funds.
Might as well replace the clutch while the engine and trans are out. For that matter, make whatever changes you want to/ can while the guts are out of the car, cause there's no easier time.
Prepare for some frustration but push through it. There's no better feeling than starting it for the first time. Except, of course doing burn outs for the first time!

Well the ls1 I'm putting in has the bbk intake mani. and a bbk 85mm tb. And is the tubular k member that much of a necessity? I was really hoping to notch my k member.

Tubular K makes life easy from being thin and light (somewhat)
It is not required

Use the Hawks LS1 swap transmission crossmember. It doesn't mount the torque arm to the crossmember, but it'll make exhaust routing a whole lot easier. My LS1/4L60E swap is doing just fine with their crossmember, stock 2000 transmission mount (which has fail-safe provision, unlike 3rd gen or poly tranny mounts), and a BMR adjustable torque arm.
There's no "free lunch" with regard to the 4th gen tank. The 4th gen fuel gauge sending unit is not compatible with 3rd gen fuel gauges. I hear you can use the V6 sender, but haven't pursued it, personally.
What year is your IROC? Electric vs. cable drive speedometer is the issue. If electric, you're golden. If cable drive, you've got decisions to make.
You will need to have the PCM reprogrammed, most likely. If you put ALL of the 4th gen parts in your car (emissions, rear end, instrument panel, etc.) you might avoid that. But, for most of us, something needs to be reprogrammed (tach output, gears, tire size, emissions, etc.).

Title says 89 which was the last year for a cable
He'd need the $300 cable-x box or upgrade the gauges (usually over $300 total)
