LT1 Alternator Gremlin

Okay heres my story. My lt1 has been in my 92 for almost 2 years now. When i first swapped it in a dead battery killed the stock alternator. Went to orielly's bought a optima and a alternator with lifetime warranty not sure what kind it is but this setup lasted until now, it stopped charging about a week ago and iv'e tried 4 alternators and all charge at 14 volts and then promptly stop charging. The last one Charged at 14v and then the next day charged at 18 volts for a short time and stopped charging... the first one to actually burn up the regulator which i'm assuming is internal. The chargeback wire has 0 resistance maybe .1 and iv'e tried 2 different batteries. The car runs for quite awhile on the optima i drove about 10 miles on just battery after driving to walmart and i started it back up and it didn't charge. Oriellys is only going to let me try one more before they just give me my money back which i think is bs on a lifetime warranty. Ive read some posts on the connector in the back sending 12 volts to the alternator and it is. ive read about putting a 480ohm resistor in there too, but my second alternator lasted for almost 2 years without fail. Am i wrong to assume the alternators are all faulty? im at a total loss here, Im seriously considering selling the car or doing an ls6 swap. plz help

First off, reman alts blow. You got 2 years on one? Go buy a lotto ticket

I went through 3 in 3 months before demanding my money back and ordering a Delco (only $40 more)

Next, your alt should burn up very quickly without the resistor. Read this and use a diagram that suits. LT1s came with 1,2 and 3 wire versions

yes i may be very lucky. i added the 470 ohm resistor just now but i still need an alternator to test on waiting till friday i will post results then, if anyone else has a different fix postup!

i got lucky with my swap, firebirds with the digital speedo, or at least 88 birds, have the correct resistor in the gauge cluster for that special charge wire so i didnt need the resistor. always thought it was a digital speedo thing but ur 92 has the digital speedo, so im not quite sure, then again its been ages since ive read the 92 maro schematics. i do know all the camaros ive seen with an lt1 swap need the resistor, so id say try that upon installing this last alternator.

There are 2 fixes for the LT1 alternator but its usually because voltage doesn't output correctly. Either add the resistor or move the wire to a different pin on the alternator connnector.

I made the pin-out on my LT1 alt connector match what was ever on my '92 V6 firebird since it had the same connector. It worked perfectly when I still had thirdgen gauges. I can try to take some pics of this sometime over the holiday weekend. Used a very very small screwdriver to bend back a tab in the pin to remove the wire from the connector.

It appears my gremlin is the Quality of the rebuilt ultima alternators it only took 4 to find a good one. What a joke.
