some lt1 swap questions
Ok for any of u that have been following my build I already have my engine and trans out, I plan on getting the rear out of it also just need that in there for now to move the car.
Here's what I need to know if I should remove..
1. Gas tank with fuel pump
2. Abs brake box?
3. I know I have to switch the one motor mount can I use one from the 4thgen car?
I don't plan on runing abs inless I have to. I already have most of the fuel lines out I'm just letting it drain right now.
What do I need to do to block off egr and a.I.r. off the motor? I'm going to be running lt headers and no smog. no ac. Just power steering and alternator.
I'm going to b using a 3rd gen rad since its bigger and I have one and an aftermarket oil and aftermarket trans cooler. Are there any special lines that I will need? I plan on running the stock routing for both then just add in the aftermarket coolers

Re: some lt1 swap questions
The LT1 FBod gas tank is steel like your thirdgen one. I dont see much benefit to swapping a gas tank unless youre going to the 99+ tupperware tank.
I don't see what use ABS would be, even with the fourth gen rear axle you're still missing wheel reluctors + sensors on your thirdgen front suspension.

Re: some lt1 swap questions
Yea I saw that the tank was metal just like mine. But I figured that the fuel pump would be different from my tbi. And idk if the lt1 fuel sending unit will fit in the tbi tank and lock tight so it might just be easier to switch the whole tank at once.. I have the sensors off my donor car and I'm planing on upgrading to the ls1 brakes front n rear so I might hold onto that abs block just incase

Re: some lt1 swap questions
Just get a 255 Walbro fuel pump and swap it into your third gen tank. Also, you can get block off plates for the LT1 intake from Hawks or TPIS or Summit or other parts stores that deal with Camaro parts.
And you have to use both standard SBC engine mounts, the same ones that hold the TPI engine in your third gen...the LT1 mounts won't work.
Block off kit http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/98...sssteel-1.aspx
Pretty cool 255 fuel pump kit http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/85...mpkit-1-1.aspx
You can find some engine mounts on this forum from someone. Pocket is sending me some, since I left mine on my 305 tpi engine, when I sold it.

Re: some lt1 swap questions
Also, if you're going to swap in a 4th gen rear with disc brakes (this is what I'm doing), don't forget to install a proportioning valve. Check out the how to section in this forum..it's a sticky there. I also have pics of my prop valve install in my swap thread

Re: some lt1 swap questions
Why would they be different? The mounting points are the same on an LT1 block as a Gen 1 SBC. An LS1 is different, but an LT1 is a modified SBC. Just run standard SBC mounts.

Re: some lt1 swap questions
Exactly, you need to use the thirdgen mounts.
I heard from other guys who did the swap that one of the LT1 mounts won't work. It will mount to the engine but will not mount to the K member properly. That's just what I heard from other guys who did the swap who, at first, tried to wrestle the engine onto the K member using both LT1 mounts. Then, they switched to the third gen mounts and had no problems. Again, this is just what I've heard.
I haven't reached this point, myself, since my engine is still being built. When I do, I'm just using the third gen mounts but with the Energy engine mount inserts underneath the clamshells that mount to the K member.

Re: some lt1 swap questions
Ill throw some advice out there as well. I recommend installing polyurethane motor mounts while you got the engine out. The clam shell on passenger side will need to grinded down if running AC. Also recommend replacing all engine gaskets.

Re: some lt1 swap questions
Not for sure if the TBI pump will keep the 40-45 PSI that is needed for the LT1 fuel rail. You need to swap to at least a TPI pump, but with the cost of it the Walbro 255 is a better pump for close to the same price.

Re: some lt1 swap questions
Well I have the complete donor car so I have the fuel tank with lt1 pump.. and for the portioning valve
If I use the master cylinder from the 93 I shouldn't need one right?

Re: some lt1 swap questions
You can swap in the 4th gen tank but you will have to shorten the filler neck. This is what I did but if I were to do it again I would just have put a new pump in my factory 3rd gen tank. I cut 4" out of the filler neck and used some rubber fuel hose with clamps. It works but I don't like it. I was trying to save some cash at the time.
Re: some lt1 swap questions
TBI pumps put out 14psi, TPI/LT1's need 43 psi, LSx need 60psi
Id save up another week or two for the 255 from the start. Swapping in a used pump is asking for trouble

Yep, might as well do it once and do it right.

Re: some lt1 swap questions
Yep, I got the Energy motor mount inserts, and I deleted the AC (I live in Wyoming he he he), so I don't have to worry about grinding anything, though I never heard about needing to grind anything if AC is kept with the LT1 (but I can visualize possibly needing to do this with the way the AC compressor is mounted to the block).
Re: some lt1 swap questions
For the prop valve, I recommend getting one from a thirdgen car with rear disc brakes. I have an adjustable aftermarket prop valve but I could never get the lines flared perfectly and probably have small small leaks when I punch the brake pedal hard. You have to cut the lines to install an aftermarket one unless they now sell size converters to step down the size.

My LT1 swap thread: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...r-v-8-a-3.html
I still have to leak test my brake lines, since I installed my adjustable prop valve. I fitted the lines to a 4th gen MC, too. We shall see. I know I definitely want to make sure it's leak free, before I put the engine in. I have plenty of time.
I was half tempted to just stick with a drum rear end and save myself some work, but oh well.

Re: some lt1 swap questions
I think the mount deal is due to the big bracket that the LT1 has that bolts to the standard mount location. Third gen mounts will use the same bolt hole. Have to rework this bracket to use the mounts. Not a big deal. Might have some problems with the AC compressor clearance?
