LS/T56 swap, shifter base hitting floor
My buddy and I are doing an LS1/T56 swap into his 85 firebird. We are using the Spohn conversion motor mounts and tranny crossmember. The crossmember is about 2 inches from bolting to framerail and the back of the shifter base is hitting the floor. Before we start modifying the floor we wanted to verify that is indeed what needs done. Thanks in advance for any help.

well the floor has to be open before the trans can sit high enough. the rear of the shifter will sit higher than the sheet metal in the tunnel

yes that is what you need to do. notch a little out of the back of the old shifter hole. i think i only took 1-1.5" out on mine, which is essentially the same setup sounds like.

Thanks Techrunner. That is exactly how much we were thinking about having to notch. We wanted to hear from someone else before we starting to cut just to make sure.
