Hello,
I will have to get the part number for you. It came off a 1996-1997 z28 vert with 26,000 miles on it, the guy took it off when he traded it in. So it is an adjustable plate, 4th gen borla set up. It came with all the plates, clamps, the part sheet that it came with when it was new, Hell it looked new!!! I drove down to north of Houston for it one day. paid 400 plus gas down there.......

I had my ls1 motor & t56 trans sitting in my garage for almost 2 years before i was able to to get started on mine. I still have some gremlins to fix before i can get on the road and just drive it.

And you are waiting on a transmission, My biggest expense was my transmission!!!! I didn't know when i bought it it was going to need a complete rebuild, so that was a surprise i wasn't ready for!!!!!!

Well,
I got to drive my car to the local NTTGA.net meet yesterday! There was not as many thirdgens as i would have liked to have seen, BUT some cool cars were there!
I think the best part for me was I got to drive my car with the new motor and trans setup for the first time (other than around the block), IT RUNS AND DRIVES GREAT!!!!! There are a few little things I need to do still as always.
It seemed weird driving at 70 with the RPM's a hair under 1000!!! And quiet too!!!!
I would do this swap again in a second, i have no regrets at all!!!!!!

I'm not sure on your gauge set up or tire height, but my t56, 26.66" tire (275x40xR18), and 3.42 rear did not result in sub 1000rpm 70mph cruising, not even close like 1500 from what I remember. Your tach or speedo may be off, or you may have different rear gear than you thought(I doubt this one!).
Here are the t56 ratios, I have a 94+ so our ratios should be the same:
1993 3.36 2.07 1.35 1.00 0.80 0.62 (std)
1993 2.97 2.07 1.43 1.00 0.80 0.62 (G92)
1994+ 2.66 1.78 1.30 1.00 0.74 0.50
I just did a speed/rpm calculation with a 26.6" tire, 0.5 6th gear, 3.55 rear and at 70 mph that combo should be just over 1600 rpm. Somethings not quite right!

That is good info for me to figure out on the rpm-tach & speedo not sounding like it is matching up. I have a ford 9 inch with 3.50 or 3.55 gears (don't remember), my tire is a 275-40-17.
So do i get the computer edited to fix that? or what is the correct way to fix it?
Thanks....
Robbie

Hook a scanner up to see what your PCM is reading engine speed as. Your factory tach may be on the fritz as most 90-92 Camaro tachs are

um I'm not real familiar with LS stuff, but if the vss (vehicle speed sensor?) is the same as an LT t56, then the sensor is on the transmission tail i believe, and the rpm is based off of the reluctor wheel for the LS motor.
I would get a gps or hand help navigation system (tom-tom, garmin, etc) and go for a drive to see if your MPH matches up, if it does you'll know the rpm is your issue, or vice versa.
If the motor is running well/perfect I'm willing to bet the ECM is seeing the correct rpm from and it's not being translated to the gauge correctly, and/or something similar is happening with MPH. Hard to really even take a guess though without knowing what gauges your using, I had a hell of a time getting my MPH right on my stock gauges even with the dakota digital sgi-5 converter box (just bought the new version gonna see how that works). Also stock rpm gauges are known to be pretty inaccurate so that could be your issue?
EDIT: pocket beat me too it!

Is there a place that fixes the rpm gauges on these cars? A friend of mine told me there is a place local here in the Dallas, TX area that can fix it. I need to find out who they are and call the I guess .

Well,
I usually have my camaro parked in the garage! But now that I am able to drive it MORE i figured i should make it more secure without worrying about someone possibly steeling it.
So i got this today for it
http://www.autopageusa.com/t_inside....6-415b69298e0d
I am going to install it this weekend......
It has a remote start built into it but I am NOT going to use that feature for now or at all.
The car has manual transmission (i don't park it in any gear) and i would not want my kids to just happen to get the keys and accidently drive it though the house..............You know anything is possible!

Umm as much as i took apart in the interior area on the swap i think i got it!
I has to wire up the clutch pedals to the neutral safety switch, and make the reverse lights work with the new transmission, I had the steering column out of the car, so i know where most of all the wires are. the main thing is make it a clean install and solder everything and use heat shrink tubbing!
I have this as a reference to use:
1991-1992 camaro

1987-1990 Camaro

Go to radio shack and pick up a pack of 100k resistors. Follow the instructions and youll have it closer than the factory had it

Hello,
I have a update........
We didn't paint the underside of the hood last spring when I started this project! Well i corrected that this past weekend.............
I would like a OEM hood insulator too But this looks 10 times better than it did.
Big Thanks to Mark (58mark) for shooting the paint!

looks good, can't wait to see ti at this years big TX meet.
Also that "spectre 9781" elbow was just what I have been looking for, is there anyway you could measure the distance from the shorter leg to the far side of the elbow? My intake is up against my radiator and I'm trying to find something to make the turn

I was told the motor had 60-70k on it, BUT it seems almost everybody says that!!
I was told the following:
1. That it could have been low on oil
2. Overreving it could do it, maybe
3. or dentonation
But after inspecting the block-motor before it went to the machine shop, it appears the oil pump may have failed............ I will be reassemling the motor in my garage with the help my new found friend "TXSZ66AVLANCHE" !!
Lesson learned for me that is for sure!!!

First off the block will be mostly stock!!
1. I might have the block back this week or the middle of next week
its getting ball honed, cleaned-vatted, new cam bearings and freeze plugs, ect
2. I am dropping off the crank to get polished, and find out what size rod and main bearings I need. And since the motor spun 2 rod bearing I was told to replace the 2 rods that spun, BUT I found a new set of 8 rods for 100.00 local. And get some new rings too
So there is my update for NOW.......................

Detonation will chew into the pistons, like very coarse sand blasting. Look at the edges around the valve reliefs. That's where it will probably show up first. If the piston tops are smooth, probably no detonation.

First Things first..
I Wanted to say thanks to my buddy Joe that helped me with completely rebuilding the motor in my garage!!
***********************************************
Hello,
Yea we checked for that before we rebulit the motor & there was not any sign of that at all.......
I think part of the problem was the motor was sold to me from a friend of mine & he was going to use it in his project & it didnt happen (divorce sale)!
He was told it had 60-70k on the motor, so I assumed it did to! And i had it for 2 years sitting in the garage before i was ready to put it all together!
I SHOULD HAVE REBUILT IT WITH FRESH PARTS THE FIRST TIME AROUND.........LESSON LEARNED, FOR SURE
Anyway
I put 100 miles on it last night, I going to change the oil tonight & put some more miles on the motor............. and change the oil again

Hello,
I took the car with the mods and rebuilt motor to the dyno Saturday, to get it tuned !!
And I am very please with the results !
Best dyno was 448 rwhp and 425 rwtq !!
Consistent 440+ rwhp on several runs !!
I think a bigger throttle body , Possiblly bigger intake and possibly bigger injectors , I could have got anothe lt 10-20 ...... Just thinking out loud !!

Let me think out loud with you...based on the dyno graph the upper RPM band suffers from restriction. A LS2 intake, 90mm throttle body, and bigger injectors I think close to 500 is very possible.
Either way you go that is still one beast of a LS1 that will make many 6.0 lovers reconsider their engine choice. Last month I saw a 6L based 408 stroker only put 456 to the wheels.
Congratulations on the results, I was very happy to help out with the engine!

Well out with this motor and now ls3 !
Someone offered me money for my motor and to install it in their 1990 Rs Camaro !
And that will pay for my ls3 setup !!

I have the ls3 block
Ls3 Ported heads
Custom cam
Ls3 intake
Ls3 style drive by cable throttle body
But I still tossing up the idea of a stroker 416-418 ls3 !!!
