Brake fluid leaking inside car from Tick MC??
I was buttoning up under my dash today and noticed the black rubber cover on the master cylinder rod was wet from brake fluid. I pushed it in a little and it oozed out more fluid. What the heck is up with that? Is that normal, and has anyone experienced this? I have had clutch issues all last year and was attributing it to the fluid deteriorating from not having the rubber gasket inside the reservoir... I wiped off the rod and rubber cover inside the car before I started bleeding the clutch and didn't see any more come out. This seems strange to me.
Does anyone know if when you spin the rod if it can come disconnected from the mechanism inside the master cylinder? It's a Tick mc...

Sounds like the pushrod seal is deteriorated. Are you sure you are using the correct fluid for the master cyl? Some types of fluids are bad for certain tyles of seals and will cause them to dissolve.

Re: Brake fluid leaking inside car from Tick MC??
I'm just using regular ol' Dot 3 or Dot 4 brake fluid from the local parts store, nothing fancy.
I got off the phone with Tick and they said if I send it to them they'll send me a brand new one. This kind of sucks because I'm taking the car to a show out of town this coming weekend. Guess I'll be working on removing it as soon as I get home.
I did check to make sure the rod was going into the MC straight and not crooked, since it's a swapped car and was originally an auto, so I didn't have the mounting holes already there. I had to drill them out myself, and from looking at it, it looks straight to me.

there has been a few on ls1tech but I think most if not all were said to have put vacuum or pressure (cant remember) on the system during bleeding

So far i haven't had issue with my tick MC... been running it since my original LS3 conversion in '09 without trouble
I didn't use any bleed on mine other than traditional pedal (ie no vacuum, etc)

I just bought a tick mc myself and about to start converting from auto to 6spd,do any of you guys have good tips for installing the tick compared to the stock fbody master?Im going to be using 4th gen pedals aswell.Im looking at the master and I dont quite understand how this thing is supposed to mount to the firewall with and angled face...maybe its just me since Im still gathering parts.

Re: Brake fluid leaking inside car from Tick MC??
At least the removal was painless. I somehow managed to get it out of the car without removing or touching anything else including the booster. I took the rod off from inside, took the hydro line off at the AN fitting, and slid it out between the fender and brake lines.
It should be at Tick tomorrow and they said their turnaround is same day, might have it installed and running by this weekend so I can test it out. I'll update my findings.
I took the boot off the rod when I removed the mc and the thing was SOAKED! Definitely not normal...

Glad to hear that Ticks service is a quick turnaround.Hopefully thats the only issues and will be up and running within a day.
Would you be able to take pics of how your tick was setup on your car. What did you use for clutch reservoir and bracket. Thanks a bunch.

Yea I can post pictures after I get it back in. I am using a stock 3rd gen reservoir and bracket. It mounts to the driver side bolt holding the brake master cylinder to the booster.

I still need to get a reservoir and make a line to the master. Can I use any reservoir as long as it holds a large amount of brake fluid? The use rubber brake line to the master and call it a day?Finding thirden manual parts here arent easy..4th gens are always stripped beyond use for my swap

Re: Brake fluid leaking inside car from Tick MC??
These are Tilton master cylinders we're talking about here... Metal bodied racing units more or less haha. They should be able to withstand slight angles and different fluids.
I dont think mine seeped anything. Ill have to check it next time Im around the car...its been sitting, so if the seals were going to go bad, now would be the time.
I did hit the clutch a few times last time I was with the car, and it felt fine. Stiff for the first push, then felt great.
Let us know how you make out!
