Fuel pressure gauge adapter for aftermarket LS1 fuel rails

My son's LS1-clone has Wilson fuel rails but no fitting to attach a fuel pressure gauge. We're not looking to permanently attach a fuel pressure gauge, but just attach a test gauge like you can do with a stock fuel rail. I've looked on summitracing.com and wilsonmanifolds.com, but don't see any information about the end fittings. From similar parts, I'd guess they are straight -8 AN o-ring fittings, but I'm not seeing an adapter with the stem valve fitting.

Anyone know of a source for such a fitting?

Doubtful a fitting will come with the schrader valve. Give this a peek

Doesnt say if it's fuel safe, but you might be able to swap the core from a stock rail

Never heard of a fuel rail taking -8 strait O-ring, usually they're 3/8" NPT

If it's -8, take this and drill/tap the center to 1/8NPT

If its 3/8" NPT, they make those fittings

Apparently Aeromotive uses straight -8 AN o-ring fittings on the ends of their rails:

Guess we'll pull a plug from the Wilson rail and look.

The fuel pressure port isn't a standard air-type Schrader valve. It's larger and has a chamfer on the end.

Perhaps what we'll do is drill & tap the plug that is in there, and just install a pressure gauge. Assuming the plug has sufficient meat, that is.

Re: Fuel pressure gauge adapter for aftermarket LS1 fuel rails

I went to the JY today and noticed several of the FWD V6 cars have a threaded schrader valve. Why not grab one of those and use an adapter? I didnt pull one and dont know the threads

We picked up a 0-100 psi Autometer fuel pressure gauge, 45 & 90 degree 1/8-NPT male/female elbows; drilled & tapped the plug, and installed it. The inlet is on the back passenger side, and the cross line on the front, so that left the gauge on the back driver side. The two adapters point the gauge forward at a 45 degree angle, making it easy to read.

Not sure how accurate it is, but it shows he has 60 psi running pressure now. No idea what it was before, but it appears to have a Vette filter/regulator in it. The tuner said it ran best with the PCM set for 43 psi, but the injectors were maxing out at full power on the dyno.

The swappers used an in-line pump, pulled the in-tank pump out of the pick-up assembly and stuffed a hard tube with a sock back down into the pick-up sump. The sock was doubled over and only appeared to be pulling fuel through about an inch of it, by the end with where the tube connected. Not sure the sump was filling properly, either. He picked up a replacement pick-up/pump/sender assembly for the 4.3 application, left the in-line in place. Figure between the two of them it'll keep the fuel supply where it should be. It starts up quicker and sounds a lot better at idle, but he needs to get it back to the tuner to make sure it's doing what it should be doing now.
