My 1991 z28 convertible ls6/4l60e build
I never thought id actually be doing an LSx swap as these things get pretty pricey from what ive seen/read and im going through ccollege(in other words im broke) but im glad I had some money when this opportunity came up.
Well, about a month ago my tired 700r4 finally kicked the bucket and I was going through a few cars in my local junk yard looking for one to replace it and stumbled across a cts-v with an lS6.. the car only had 50k miles so I think I got an ok deal..

The only thing is that the wires that connect to the ecu have been cut. Idk what I could do about this... was kinda hoping you guys could give me some input..

I just want to add that I am not experienced at all with doing anything mechanical. Im going to try to do this swap with any information I can gather here or ls1tech... and I hope I don't get on u guys nerves with some of my dumb questions

Good start not sure if anyone can clarify if the ctsv front accessories are suitable for our cars . Same goes for the manifolds.. Iirc you might have to swap those thing out for the f body accessories. As for the wiring pocket is the person to go to. I've seen his harnesses and they're top notch quality
How much did you find this ls6 for here in Cali

Man I'd be pissed about that wiring harness, that's just complete laziness, no excuse for that.
Looks like a good start though, throw up some pictures of the ride so we can see what it's going in!

Re: My 1991 z28 convertible ls6 swap
Since the harness is already cut, get it extended 2 feet so that you can mount the ECU where the stock ECU is located.
Great find, those LS6 engines put down 350+ rwhp stock. With a tune and cold air intake you'll see another 10-15 rwhp with great street manners and gas mileage

Here she is... the pictures actually make her look ALOT better but trust me she's definately a 50 footer...
The PO didn't give her the love she deserved.. the paints got orange peel all around.. he drilled screws into places that didn't have them previously. Oh! And the headlight buckets were repainted body color..
needless to say I had to fix that asap

stinks that your harness is cut, but the pcm connectors are pretty standard and can grabbed off a ton of different gm vehicles (if you didn't get them). there is a ton of wiring info over at lt1swap.com (i know, sounds funny), print it out and start labeling!
one thing to note - pretty sure you guys in Cali have to carry over all emissions equipment that would have come equipped on the year of the engine - cats, evap system, egr, fuel tank, gauge cluster, and so on. may want to see what some other CA owners have done to get theirs to pass their CARB recertification.

Re: My 1991 z28 convertible ls6 swap
Quick update, I was removing the wiring harness and spraying a bit of brake cleaner to get things looking nicer when I found this little hiccup in the water pump..

So looks like i might as well go with f-body front acc if im gonna have to pay for another one of these.. I probably woulda had to anyway, but I was hoping I could try and make these fit and save some bread.. oh well.

Re: My 1991 z28 convertible ls6 swap
If you know a welder that does aluminum, that pump can be saved, otherwise just get another Fbody/corvette pump and keep the current accessories. Used ones go for $40-60
Please post more pics of the Cadillac accessories because to date I dont recall any information on the forum. So far it seems to be similar to the Fbody/GTO layout but with corvette tight spacing. Interesting
Harness isnt junk, but it'll have to be completely stripped and rebuilt. The connectors can be sourced from almost all 98+ GM vehicles. IMHO FWD 3.8 cars have nicer looking/functioning connectors. Id also suggest, swapping to a cable TB because they're more common and its less to retrofit
Wish we had LSx engines hanging around junkyards here

I was thinking the alternator sticks out farther and would hit the steering gear, but I could be wrong.

Hello, I am putting a list of LS and LT swaps together and thought this swap thread would be a great addition to the list. If you you would be willing to add your thread to the list just paste your link into a reply here: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...ltx-swaps.html and I'll add yours to the list.

Re: My 1991 z28 convertible ls6 swap
Quick question regarding smog equipment, can I still use f body ls1 components in order for my car to be able to pass inspection/smog in ca? I know that emissions requirements are updated for newer cars and im im not sure if id have a problem since the ls6 is from an '05 cts-v.. I guess I just want to know if I need the cts components or will the f body ones suffice..

Got my ecu in the mail today, really unsure that I got the right one.. are all latemodel gm ecu's interchangable?
Re: My 1991 z28 convertible ls6 swap
Go by the service number. Thats a green/blue PCM for a later GEN III truck. If you can find a pinout, it will work assuming you're prepared to keep drive by wire should the IAC driver be missing
Heres how you can tell if the PCM will control DBC

Re: My 1991 z28 convertible ls6 swap
Darn. I didn't want to go through the trouble of keeping the drive by wire... I kind of had an idea Tht I didn't get the right pcm thanks for confirming it. So if i get a cable tb the pcm I would need is serv. No. 12576106 right?

Re: My 1991 z28 convertible ls6 swap
Haven't given up on the build, its just been tough going between two jobs and school. Finally found a trans within my budget. Its a 4l60e from an 02 ss:
Almost got all of the pieces for a 4th gen interior swap. Ill upload pictures of those later today.
Does anyone have pocket's lsx fuel diagram? I've been looking for it, but can't seem to find it.

Junkyard LS engines don't exist in Chicago, so I hate you already..............ya gotta tell me what you got it for though!
And yes, that harness is totally usable. You'd have to cut it like that anyway to extend the harness.

I'm excited to see this LS6 swap! It's true that you might have to lengthen the wires anyway depending on where you mount the PCM so it might not be so bad after all
Good luck and have fun! Thread Starter

I actually found it for 2k at one of the less frequented salvage yards. Still, I was pretty lucky to find it.

4th gen interior.. just the bigger things.. I've got alot of small trim pieces that aren't pictured.. scored on the gauge cluster, its got just as many miles as the engine/trans(around 50k) ill have to look for a good write up for the door panels, they look to be a pita.

Did you get the guage harness aswell?
I heard the wiring involved is a bit tedious.
Good to see progress, keep it up!

Yeah, the dash I bought came with an ls1 dash harness. Not looking forward to all of the wiring as much as I look forward to drive it again. But hey, there's no happiness without a little suffering.
Re: My 1991 z28 convertible ls6/4l60e build
Do you still need the PCM connectors? I have a couple out of a late model truck I don't think I will need. I bought it to use some of the wires to extend my harness. I will be using like 20-25 of the wires but otherwise it will be left intact. I got about 3 feet of the harness with the PCM connectors on the end.

Re: My 1991 z28 convertible ls6/4l60e build
Man, it's been a while! Well as it goes for many of us, life has definitely gotten in the way of finishing this project. Learned alot these past two years. I bought a 2000 TA that I enjoyed/daily drove. The ls6 is finding a home in that car currently. I've got a pretty cruddy job at the moment, but that should change here soon. The plans have changed for my third gen, ill be building the ls1 that is coming out of the TA and basically restoring the whole car. It'll be a long process, but I'm hoping it'll be worth it in the long run. Ill post a couple of pics of my TA here also it's been such a blast to drive. Thanks for all the compliments and to all of you that have followed my build. I'm hoping I can give you guys more meaningful updates soon enough.
